I found these two links that seem to be talking about the same thing as you:

They both seem to suggest either re-installing or putting a particular file in from another Mac with Photoshop loaded on it. See if either of those pages leads you anywhere useful.

Did you install Photoshop from the original disc or did you just drag the application icon off of some other hard drive and put it in the application folder?
That method usually works with most OSX programs, but with Photoshop you’ll run into little problems like this. I’d try re-installing it from the CD directly.
Let me know if that’s what you’ve already done and we can examine other areas…but this is my first guess.

I’m not sure what you found online but 5.1 is a $50 upgrade if you own the whole Final Cut Studio and a $100 upgrade if you just own Final Cut 5 by itself:

As for needing to? The main reason to do so would be if you share projects with a machine running 5.1. Your 5.0 system won’t be able to open projects worked on in 5.1.
If that’s not an issue then you don’t really NEED version 5.1 right now.

Nope.
The Intel Macs can run a lot of older software through an emulation layer they call “Rosetta.” Unfortunately, the “Pro” Apple programs won’t work that way. Things like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Word will, but Final Cut won’t.
You’ll need to upgrade to Final Cut 5.1, which you can do here:

It will cost you $699, but for that price you’ll get Final Cut 5.1, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor. All of that usually costs $1,299, so the upgrade price is pretty good.

I have no experience with any of these monitors, but I did want to point out one thing.
Whe the prices dropped on the Apple LCDs yesterday they also quietly raised the contrast ratios and brightness levels on the 20″ and the 23″ monitors.
I can’t say what that means in regards to your problems, Walter, but it does mean Apple’s been fiddling with the specs since you did your test. If anyone goes into an Apple store anytime soon it might be worth trying to replicate this problem again and see what happens.

If you want to spend some time on Google you may find other companies make similar products. Just is just one that I know of.

Just drag the Applications to the trash.
Final Cut should be just fine.
Now, it’s true that some of these programs will have left behind some folders in your libraries in which to save your settings. But if you haven’t used these programs yet there’s probably little to nothing IN those folders. I’d suggest that you forget about them instead of poking around forever trying to reclaim 5 MB of space by erasing empty folders. They won’t harm your system.
The one exception to that is if you let any of these programs install templates or loops. Do you remember picking those options when you loaded everything? If you have audio loops or animation templates or DVD menu samples you’ll want to earse those. Use Spotlight to search for each program’s name and see what it turns up.

You’re thinking way too hard. The solution is in the instructions: They say to step out of frame first.
Here’s my guess on how it works:
The moment when you are out of frame the computer memorizes every pixel that it sees. From then on, it only records pixels that are DIFFERENT from the ones in its memory. That’s it!
As you can see in the demo, however, it’s not a very “clean” key. It’s certainly good enough for chatting with your friends, but I don’t think you’d be using that method in After Effects anytime soon. It also makes me think that if you do this on a laptop you’d have to re-set the background key every time you adjusted or moved the laptop.

I would buy two 80 GB, external, firewire hard drives. Copy everything to one hard drive and then again to the other. Then, keep them both…keep one of them in a different building than the other.
It’s the easiest, cheapest, safest way that I can think of.
