wondering if I need to install the fcp 5.1.1 update
Hello all
running fcstudio on my PowerPC G5 single 1.8Ghz processor with 1.5 gb ram under os 10.4.7 I try to run software update on this machine and my version of fcp is 5.04
to date software update has not informed me that the machine requires a new version of fcp
well I have an intel Imac at work which is running fcp ver5.1.1
so I did a little detective work online and found that there is a link to fcp5.1.1
I did the required login and entry of my fcstudio details and was brought to the linksI ran the 2006 pro apps updater and I got a dialog box that told me I didn’t need to install this on my machine
I did review the tech specs for the upgrade prior to downloading and they state as follows: Minimum System Requirements
Macintosh computer with 867MHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, or Intel Core Duo processorso my question is should I upgrade ?

I’m not sure what you found online but 5.1 is a $50 upgrade if you own the whole Final Cut Studio and a $100 upgrade if you just own Final Cut 5 by itself:

As for needing to? The main reason to do so would be if you share projects with a machine running 5.1. Your 5.0 system won’t be able to open projects worked on in 5.1.
If that’s not an issue then you don’t really NEED version 5.1 right now.

That’s correct. 5.1 is NOT a Software Update from fCP 5.0.4, it a new Universal version of FCP. You need to send in your original 5.0 discs and Apple will ship you the new Universal FCP 5.1.
