Mark’s right, don’t use it for editing.

That being said, I tend to copy all of my Final Cut project files onto the iPod every now and then. It’s a nice little backup drive since they don’t take up too much space.

I have no idea if it’s prints, but just so you know…

OSX comes with a program called “Font Book,” I think. If that’s not the name, look for the program with an icon that looks like a metal tablet with an “F” on it. It’s a nice, simple program that reminds me of “Address Book.”

BE AWARE, however, that everytime you open it it looks like it scans all the fonts again. With a large collection this could take up to a minute. You can see the little “working” animation in the lower right part of the program. You should leave the program ALONE while it’s doing that. I’ve found it to be very unstable and unusable if you try to use it while that process is going on. But if you wait a minute for it to finish, it’s worked just fine for me.

That being said, I’ve never tried to print from it so I can’t comment on that. But you should check it out first since you already have it.

How do you get a hold of the files, drag them out of the iTunes library?
    ===

Just grab it right there from the library and drag it to any folder (or the desktop). It will make a copy of it wherever you drop it.

I think that Expresses uses the intermediate codec wile FCP5 is native. I have no experience with Express, but I hear people complain about that codec all the time in terms of its quality.

I believe we’ll see 10.4.2 by the end of June, so that may be a good milestone to wait for. Whether you do that or not I WOULD suggest waiting until the big project is over! That’s always a good policy, no matter how secure the update should be.

The people who run this site may regard this as spam. I suggest you submit this item here:

    https://www.macobserver.com/contact.shtml

Scroll down to “Press Releases” and submit it there. That page would also consider a post like this spam, but if you sumit it properly they’ll likely post it as a story.

It looks like a great product, try submitting it to that page and you’ll probably get a better response than you will here!

    Just the “T”

Your memory has added an extra key to the step. It’s even easier than you thought!

There will be some. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re seeing or not, however. Is this footage supposed to end up on DVD? Why convert from DVCPRO50 to DV and then to MPEG2? Why not use Compressor to go right from DVCRO50 in Final Cut to MPEG2?

If possible, the first thing I’d do is take all of the data off the firewire drive, re-format it, and then drag it all back.

If you have too much data on it to make that idea easy, then try hooking both computers up with the firewire cable. Restart the iMac and hold down the “T” key. It will show up on your other computer as a firewire drive. Just find the file and drag it over!

If THAT doesn’t work then I’d have to think there was something wrong with the file itself.

Are you watching your QT movies on the computer screen? They’ll never look quite as good as when you’re playing it out to an external video monitor. Are you putting this onto DV tape? How does it look when you play the TAPE back? That’s what actually matters.
