One option would be to set up a free dropbox account. You can setup your compressor to save the file directly into your dropbox folder on your computer and go to bed. It will automatically sync to your dropbox account online and they can get it from there.
Also, I believe there are some free cross-platform videoconferencing sites that will allow you to do screen sharing. Maybe that is an option.
Good luck!

That is difficult to find. To have a simple customizable site that is low cost, no flash, no programming knowledge required site….may be asking too much. We have been in the need of something similar, we needed a temporary site to go up in a hurry while we figure out plans for something more (hopefully) substantial. We went with Wix.com.
Wix.com IS Flash based, but I think you are going to have to give on something. It is simple to learn and you can embed youtube video OR upload your own flv or mp4 videos. You can even optimize it for SEO. If nothing else it is a great way to have some thing decent looking and customizable that we can do ourselves w/o hiring a programmer while we figure something else out. Good luck!

No, you had the right idea then. Just drag your footage into the timeline and FCP will set up the project for you.

What is the final output? If you are making a DVD, I would make a standard 720X480 timeline. When you drag the clips in there it will letterbox with the black bars on top and bottom. This will make sure it plays back fine on whatever TV or projector it plays back on.
If you know it will play back on a wide screen TV you can edit in anamorphic (just be sure that when you go to DVD Studio Pro that you make sure the wide screen option is checked in the timeline there). Just make sure you test it before you play it for the class.
Hope that helps,

Chris was my friend and professional mentor. He taught me everything about FCP and creative ad design. He will be missed. Thank you David and all who commented as I know he reached out to many people in the COW forum.

Dave, thanks for the feedback.
I shot on a Panny HVX and used FCP Log and Transfer to bring in the footage and used that. No Timelines. I SHOULD have shot 720p30 but the original expectation was that there would be re-framing so I shot large.
Thanks for the info on 1080, didn’t know that. I have checked interpret footgae and the Separate Fields is set to OFF. There is no option for setting field order to NONE that I see. Maybe a dated AE 7 Thing?

Try clipwrap! It’s a $50 program, but I had a similar issue and it bailed me out. Download the demo first and let it rip and see if it resolves your issue before you purchase though. But working with AVCHD, I’m a big fan (BTW, I first heard about it from a previous post you made Shane, so big thanks!)
I don’t know what camera you are using, but I use the Sony NX5U and did imports fine until I tried a long clip. I’ve also heard that changing your audio settings from the default PCM to Dolby have helped.

I’ve used them and they are horrible for MAC users. They shoot in an obscure codec and the packaged software only works for PCs. I’ve found work around software but was unhappy with the picture quality. Unless you want to save up for a camera like the HM100 I would stay away from JVC. But then again you could get a Panasonic AG-HMC40 for a little less. To stay in that under $1000 category I would stick with Canon or Sony.

Mike,
Here is a decently detailed review of the camera.
https://camcorder-test.slashcam.com/compare.htmlI think what John meant is that a “good” camera is not a one size fits all scenario. There is some good info in the forum here and links to even more. I recently purchased the NX5U based on what I read here and the info that some people referred to. It’s a great camera and I’m really happy with it. It has a couple drawbacks that may be problematic for your purposes, but it also might be overkill. The Sony AX2000 is the little brother to the NX5 if you don’t need timecode sync and some of the more advanced features (filmmakeriq.com did a good review on the camera).
Also don’t forget to budget for batteries, media, travel case, etc. That stuff adds up!
