    hey guys
i do all my edits at home. when i get done, i first compress them and then upload them to vimeo. the next morning, the creative team will view the new edits. i work 30 minutes from the office and there is no need for me to drive up there to show them the new edits… is there some quicker way of doing this… it is a goofy process when the only change is moving a logo one inch to the left or things like that… to have to redo the entire process for such a small change is frustrating and the overnight compression and uploads are eventually going to drive my employer up a wall i fear…

Overnight compression and upload? Are you compressing a very long program every night in order to look at a small section of it?
How about you compress the file (whole or part) using a Compressor droplet and then use the desktop version of yousendit and skip Vimeo altogether. I do this on a daily basis and it is very fast. Or use an FTP client( Cute FTP for instance) to upload your compressed file to a directory on your or your company’s server (some cannot access yousendit at work). Either way there is no waiting for a file to be processed after uploading (if you do not have the full version of vimeo) and if you are working on a particular section of the project you can compress it and send them multiple rounds of changes throughout the day. Before you know it they will think you are in the next room.

You will always need to render your sequence.
Where you can accelerate is on the H264 compression.
There are RT hardware solutions for less than 100 bucks.

One option would be to set up a free dropbox account. You can setup your compressor to save the file directly into your dropbox folder on your computer and go to bed. It will automatically sync to your dropbox account online and they can get it from there.

Also, I believe there are some free cross-platform videoconferencing sites that will allow you to do screen sharing. Maybe that is an option.

    Good luck!

Dropbox has a desktop utility that you can download. It puts an actual folder on your computer for you to drag and drop or save stuff too. When you set the location to save the compressed movie in Compressor, just navigate to that folder.

Now, if it is just you and the client using the one Dropbox account, they can download the desktop utility and sync it with your account so whenever they the movie is finished compressing, all they have to do is is check the folder on their desktop and there it is. If, however, you are using the Dropbox account with multiple clients, set Compressor to save the movie in the “Public” subfolder under the Dropbox folder. Get Compressor started and look in the Public folder for the movie. Even though the movie isn’t finished compressing, you can Right click on the file and copy the “Public Link” and send that link to your client. Whenever Compressor is finished they can download the movie or stream it in their browser if their browser supports the file type.

Hope that helps. Check out their tutorials on their website.
