Looking to get a Mac Studio exclusively for FCPX, maybe some Motion.

How much RAM will FCPX benefit from? How much is too much? 32GB vs 64GB vs 128GB

M1 Max 24-core vs 32-core Neural Engine? Significant difference between the cores?

How about going all out with the M1 Ultra?

Can spend to maximize the specs BUT If any minimal speed benefits on any of the above we would rather save the money for more internal storage or external storage. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Currently have a 2015 MBP with an Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt(not compatible with Thunderbolt 3/4) going component out to my Sony PVM-14L5.

Looking to upgrade to a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB RAM. Any suggestions of a low cost Thunderbolt 3/USB-C playback option going analog component out to my Sony PVM? UltraStudio 4K is over $2000.

Which RAID level do you recommend for speed and redundancy with SoftRAID? Thank you.

Looking to upgrade to Big Sur so I can use FCP 10.5 on my 2015 Macbook Pro. Looking for feedback for those who have updated. I’m coming from Mojave…checked my 32 bit apps only one is Quicktime 7 Pro. I know clean install would be best practice. Anyone update directly from Mojave? How is your experience? Stable? Will I be able to still create a partition to install Sierra and FCP7?

Any feedback before jumping to 64bit. Thanks.

After seeing the long thread of the Catalina issues, it’ll be a wait and see until at least Dec 2 when MotionVFX mTracker 3D is out. I’ll be going from Mojave to Big Sur on a 2015 MBP. Maybe I’ll partition and test it out to prepare. What can I expect/changes/best pratice when going from 32 bit to 64 bit MacOS? Checked my Apps and the only thing missing would be QT 7 Pro.

Thanks for the info all. I mostly acquire ProRes content with some HEVC content. My biggest concern is no Thunderbolt ports and researching on PCIe available and its reliability/stability. Also looking if NVMe is an options.

What are you all using as your FCPX media drives and what connection? Thank you.

So probably no FCPX 10.5 until Big Sur is out this Fall.

Wow it’s been awhile since I looked into the iPad. Didn’t realize it now has USB-C. Now I am seriously considering one….espc if FCPX 10.5 on iOS is around the corner but LumaFusion w/ XML export to FCPX looks pretty darn good.

I wouldn’t shift to FCPX exclusively on an iPad Pro but definitely would purchase it to complement the desktop version…but this won’t happen(for me at least) until the iPad Pro has USB-C/Thunderbolt connectivity.
