Hi guys – I’ve spoken with an engineer at Sony and he has collaborated with an FCP engineer at Apple – the codec for 25 mbps 30P was left out of the current version of FCP. It should be included in the next update. So, currently FCP 5.1.2 does not support XDCAM HD at 25 mbps with a framerate of 30p – exactly as XDCAM Guy states in the previous post. – Jay

The concept is simple. Once you have the flip4mac addition to FCP installed you just click import mxf file and select whatever media you want to work with. However, I keep ending up with horizontally smashed stuff when working in an HDV timeline. I’m assuming that a little trouble shooting will solve this.

I have a Powerbook and Motion will run on it. However, actually running and running well are two different things. If you can get it to run on a system that is sub-specs I can’t imagine being too excited about the performance results.

That’s a good point Walter. Since they both cost around $500.00 maybe the ATI is the way to go. Does it also make that constant fan noise?

I experienced the same scenario with Motion 1.0 and then with 1.1. It didn’t crash every time but consistently enough to be annoying. I upgraded to Motion 2 and haven’t had the problem occur yet.

Regarding what card to get – the 256 MB NVidia 6800 Ultra seems to blast through most Motion projects nicely. On a sidenote it does add additional fan noise to your G5 all of the time. It’s not noisey and after a while I’ve stopped noticing it altogether.
