If you’re looking for inspiration for animating there’s nothing better than using the words literally. Carpet – flying carpet; air duct – words blow in; Chimney – words reveal in a puff of smoke

    ??

Yes particular is the way to go. Some parameters would be:
Particle emitter from a point. Emit a few hundred then turn it off.
    Velocity is pretty fast.
Change the opacity over life ramp from none to on about halfway thru(Life of particle about 1 sec or less)
Opacity of the particles should be down. Size is up. I think the type of particle would be good as a cloudlet, maybe faded sphere.
In the physics settings, I’d add some turbulence under the air settings. Also add some air resistance for realism.

Those settings should get you somewhere close.

    Have fun!

I’m sure there are free ink bleeds out there, but Videocopilot has the Riot Gear package with a lot to pick from. Then use track mattes with the pics and ink bleeds.

    Thanks for the clarification Dave!

I have basically the same setup. Little slower processor speed (2.33). That will work fine. The only really costly thing in addition to that is the video card. For affordability (does that exist in this realm?) I went with NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800, but that was the lowest I found recommended for mograph and what I needed it for. Still $400.00 tho.

You can alter the codec of a quicktime compression to say mp4 instead of ‘animation’. You will trade quality for size no matter what, but I do that occasionally to save size. You also have the option of using Premiere Pro or Final Cut to resample you movie file. I also do this on occasion. Render out of AE in QT and then export out of Premiere in FLV or MPG2.
Are you confident your particular settings are right?

Also look at this page for articles and info on optimization. How you set up AE, etc., is very important

Is the particular layer on top? Otherwise, try looking in the Render twirl down. Check that Transfer Mode is set to none.

    Hope that’s the prob!

Sorry if this posts twice. Try making any layer you don’t want to include in the render a ‘guide layer’. Right-click on the layer and select ‘Guide Layer’. A small blue number sign will appear by the layer name. This will leave the layer in comp view but will hide it during renders and in any comps the layer is nested in.
