How to render a Video without the background

Sorry if this posts twice. Try making any layer you don’t want to include in the render a ‘guide layer’. Right-click on the layer and select ‘Guide Layer’. A small blue number sign will appear by the layer name. This will leave the layer in comp view but will hide it during renders and in any comps the layer is nested in.

I dont want to hide something. I want to prerender my particles, but without a background, no black background, just transparent.

I did this, but the quality of the prerendered particles is very bad and the file is to big.

You can alter the codec of a quicktime compression to say mp4 instead of ‘animation’. You will trade quality for size no matter what, but I do that occasionally to save size. You also have the option of using Premiere Pro or Final Cut to resample you movie file. I also do this on occasion. Render out of AE in QT and then export out of Premiere in FLV or MPG2.
Are you confident your particular settings are right?

it works now fine, but the file size dont changed. Do you know how i can make the file about 30mb big?

And how did Andrew Kramer created his footage, is a .mov file and not that big?

Hello Dave!

Please can you clarify one thing here: in terms of transparency and file size, it is possible to create separate Alpha channel video in .mp4 and then another in RGB, but I found this not working when imported in Premiere Pro or After Effects and I am missing here something so I ask you what could that be.
