Re installing the drivers would be the next thing I’d try. I can’t see how that could cause any further harm. I think I’d reinstall FCP next after that (I think you’ll have to reinstall the drivers again after you do that).
Deleting the prefs with FCP rescue as TCW mentions is easy to try, harmless and maybe worth it but I don’t believe that problems relating to not recognizing the card are to be cured that way.. you never know.
One thing to try if you get desperate is to reinstall everything from scratch on a new drive; buy a new Sata drive, put it in a bay (assuming you have a free one in the G5) and start from scratch; install os x, fcp, and the Blackmagic drivers and see what happens. Working with the new drive you can keep your old drive in the machine and intact in case you decide to go back to it. It’s good to freshen things up now and then, though maybe a long process if you have a lot of other software to install to get up to speed.
Good luck.

Well I would run the uninstaller for that maxtor software for sure first thing.. Sorry if that seems obvious.. but I thought I’d mention it.

Hey Bob, thanks for those comments. Our need is not to master in HD but to shoot and capture in HD. The final product is SD for the moment. The HD origination is to allow for potential HD finishing in case of future sales.
I recognize that DVC Pro HD is a compressed format. Are there acceptance problems with it? I note that it is an accepted HD format for Discovery Channel and my impression is that they are fairly picky.
I am a a bit confused by the notion that the deck “is a native 720p deck, but it can record at 1080i”. What is “un-native” about it’s 1080i performance? What is the real meaning of that distinction? If you can clarify..
Thanks, Just starting to get the HD thing figured out. I need all the help and information I can get. Anyone know of a good website?
thanks,

Ok, so the reinstall seems to have cleared up the intermittence in capturing.. but I still can’t get anything out of the spdif.. jiggled the cable and all that…

Thanks Kristian,
I have decided to try to start with a fresh system drive and reinstall everything this weekend as there are a few little funny things happening on this particular system. As well the SP/dif output has stopped working, and a Promax sata tower that works elsewhere does not mount properly on this computer.
What would be the best slot configuration for a system with a sata card and a decklink pro? Right now there is also an ATTO card but when I take it out the problems persist. Will get rid of it as soon as I can get the sata thing working.
We have tried other codecs. We can capture from DV no problem. Same problem when capturing from Digibeta via sdi. We capture to DV or 8 bit. same problems either way.
I’ll let you know what happens..

Hi Kristian,
Will we require these drivers to run Decklink with the Intel Macs only or will Power PC mac’s running the universal binary versions of fcp also require new drivers?

Do try some compression if you are not using any. That is a standard for voice recording. We use Waves plugins. They are a bit pricey but you can download a version from their site (waves.com) that will function for 2 weeks. The waves C4 is great for getting that warm snappy sound you hear on some fm radio. Takes some fooling around to get the sound you want. Start by trying the various presets to get an idea of what it can do.

[Rory Hinds] “Can you colour grade with it?”
My understanding is that they do not recommend it for that. I saw that somewhere.
