Another question… I have been running the media on a thunderbolt drive dock with a Western Digital Black 7200 rpm drive. Can you see any reason that should not work well. It’s an HD project. (Not 4k)

Hey Dennis, (sorry about the typo before!!)

Thanks for that very useful information. I discovered that I should be running 4 channel RAM not 3 channel… among other things..

    Again thanks,

    Thanks Shane.

Could you tell me what your configuration is: How much memory, which graphics card, are you running a RAID for storage? Much obliged.

I think I found the cheat.. I assign the 4 input tracks as left, right, centre and centre surround, then select 4.0 as the output…

    Thanks Doug.

The compressor settings got me closer… I did what you suggest and assigned the channels of the source file. When I create a setting for my encode the only choice one gets for an output format that has four channels is “4.0 (L R C CS)” and when I use that channels one and two are correct ( full mix 1 and 2 ) channel 3 is blank and channel 4 has the correct M&E (at least i think it is correct but I suppose it might be ch 3 and 4 mixed??).. funny that they don’t allow you more control over the output format for audio.

I don’t have quicktime 7 pro.. will try to dig up a copy of that somewhere…

thanks for your help it’s appreciated.

We are having a problem with it… FCP is working mostly normally but when we open a file window… to do a “save as ” for example or to reconnect offline media, the window closes very quickly by itself.. no time to complete the operation.

Note that you have to create a sequence with the proper outputs… to start. You cannot change them once the sequence is created. That would be too easy..sigh.

I did find a way to do it. I bring the files into Premiere first. In Premiere you can set up a sequence with the appropriate audio channels IE 4 of them and then you send it all to Media Encoder.. it retains the proper outputs.

I believe I used this tutorial to figure it out…
