If you are using a firewire cable then it is essentially just a data transfer, so the term “digitizing” is a misnomer in this case. No way to increase or decrease the quality of the files.

I’ve never had trouble using a variable ND filter on my GH4 lenses. You are in manual focus and can’t get it to work?

Some prefer to sharpen in post, as opposed to having the camera do it. Some want a dreamier, softer look. I shoot luggage videos occasionally and if I don’t turn the sharpness down I can get moiré from the fabric weave. It’s a personal thing––whatever gets you the look you want.

You’ve got two choices:
1) You can shoot normally and do all the speed changes in post. This requires the software to create new frames to lengthen out the desired sections of footage. The results can vary from great to lousy, depending on the software and the footage.
2) You can shoot at a higher frame rate, such as 60fps, then edit at 24fps. This will give you 2.5X slow motion. This will give you very clean, smooth slow motion. The portions you want to play back at regular speed, you would speed up by 250%.

You can select all the 4K clips in the browser and change their spatial conform settings all at once in the inspector.[juergen steinbrecher] “I have 4096×2160 material from the GH4. If I put the material first into the timeline (maybe for fit/fill purposes) then the timeline will use this as the setting (hopefully also with the fit/fill distinction) but will not the 1080 blow up and look horrible? Is there a way to avoid that?”
The project properties will be determined by the first clip you drop into it, only if that’s what you choose in the initial project setup dialogue. You can either edit in 4K and scale up the 1080, or edit in 1080 and scale down the 4K. Play around a bit and see what looks better to you.
