  • Why reduce GH4 sharpness?

I have heard several videographers say they reduce the GH4 “Sharpness” setting, within a particular picture style, as low as it will go.

This puzzles me; I thought the goal was to get the sharpest possible footage.

Can someone explain to me why it is desirable to make the GH4 footage less sharp? Does “less sharp” = “film look”?

Some prefer to sharpen in post, as opposed to having the camera do it. Some want a dreamier, softer look. I shoot luggage videos occasionally and if I don’t turn the sharpness down I can get moiré from the fabric weave. It’s a personal thing––whatever gets you the look you want.
