  • I use Newton all the time. I was trying to think of a way to animate the corners of a flat graphic using newton for physics, but in reality you should really be doing this with a 3D package. Dan’s right about the physics. AE just doesn’t do 3D physics…yet. You can animate 2D physics with Newton and then turn on the 3D switch. Other than that you’re left with hand animation, which with some finesse, will look a lot better IMO unless you can render your animation with a 3D package like Cinema 4D.

thanks guys, both work perfectly. I’m sort of not surprised that nobody’s asked to do something like this. it’s always blinking, flickering, or some other animation.

this saves me a TON of time!

I want the opacity to stay the same throughout the comp, no random animation.

and if it’s possible, make the opacity value one of those 4 values, but of course random from one layer to the next, and no in between values like 40%. This is a request from a Microsoft client if that gives you any idea how weird the request is.

    Thanks Kevin!

ok, this is pretty awesome 🙂 I’m trying to understand the color system though. Are those 32 bit values?

This is great, Dan. Is there a way to keep the random seed range within a color hue?

yeah, i’m using a null for my camera position and not rotating.

I figured it out finally. I just wasn’t applying it to the right place, but then I also realized I needed to animate the position value again since its values changed relative to the comp.

Thanks so much Darby, I think this is perfect.

cool! the bulge expression works great, but how do I control the size of it? also, I’m still having trouble keeping the bulge center on the layer’s position. keeps moving around with the camera move.

I posted this in the other forum as well and Darby brought up a good point. I have the layers continuously rasterized as they’re AI files that need to be so. I don’t have the time to go back and resize and reload, that would really screw things up at the moment. Too many layers. Is there anyway around it? I could just do all my animation before the camera move, but I like to have some of it still going on like the radial wipes and such. It’s this sort of industrial factory/pipe scene.

ah, that’s it. i have a bunch of vectors, so yeah, they’re continuously rasterized, and at this moment, there’s no going back to resize them and start over. do you think there’s any way around it?
