Two things to try. You said you know what layer it is, or think you know. If you double click the layer and it IS a text layer, you’ll be able to type the new text in. If it really isn’t editable, create you’re own text, and if you have cs6, parent the new text layer to the layer you want to replace, hold shift before you let go of the pick whip and it will snap to that layers location, thus eliminating any need for copy pasting keyframes. Just increase the scale to whatever size you need it, and you’re good to go. Don’t forget to make the old layer invisible of course.

I took some surveys a few months back that asked if I would be interested in something like a “video cloud membership” as well as a “design” and other variations. I thought it sounded like a great idea. So no future plans for discounted cloud plans where you choose what software you’d like to use instead of the whole thing?

It seems to me with the CC subscription model allowing Adobe to update the software on the fly, and no need to call it cs# any longer, why the need then for the ability to back save? In theory, AE version 11 is the last version number. No need to call it version anything since you’re essentially strapping on new parts from to time. Overhauling the interface and what not would just be update #.#.# with a date attached maybe. In order to open up old files…well you can already do that today with the newer versions. And since nobody will be running older versions, there’s no need to back save unless someone hasn’t updated yet, in which case you tell them to get off their thumbs and update already.

The easy fast and dirty way? You could make a freeze frame of the frame you want to look sketched, and then use a filter on it like the Cartoon effect.
The artsy cool way to do it? Draw a line version of it yourself and then make a cool sketch transition effect from the video to the still frame kind of like in the Sherklock Holmes titles. Looks like a bit of noise on the geometry he’s loaded in there or created from masks and opacity/noise/distance keyframing to animate the shapes to full opacity and appear random. I highly suggest going to the AEscripts page for plexus and watch each tutorial on there. I did, and it helped immensely to understand how to get things working in there. After that, it’s a lot of playing around to make cool stuff.

Sounds like you have TWO layers set as environment layers, is that right? If you want one of those layers to act as your background, then you can’t set it as an environment layer because it’ll get “converted” to an HDRI image and look like it’s disappeared. It actually just gets REALLY big and blurry.
So disregarding that whole process since you’re mostly interested in just using it as a background and want a way to do it with Element. I’ve done this before a couple of times and it’s REALLY easy. Here’s Andrew Kramer’s tutorial on how to do that – https://vimeo.com/46868290

actually, I think I’m putting it in the wrong place, if I put it under the t=time line then everything animates the same as usual. If I put it at the bottom it doesn’t work at all. Is there some syntax I’m missing?
