Yea, I got that…but when you turn the visible icon back on…Render is gone? That’s an oversight…FCP has a file that references that EXACT point in the timeline…but when you turn the track visible icon off, then back on…you lose all renders that involve that track. HUGE oversight, IMHO.

How about handling renders? I’m assuming/hoping that’s part of media management.
It boggles my mind how bad FCP is at losing reference to renders when you change something…but then put it back. Or just turn off the visibility of a track…render is gone?!

I was doing a search and this post came up…how exactly do you set FCP to use your source clip TC when exporting to QT? Currently it uses the timeline TC.

sorry, I found it once I posted that.
At first I couldn’t get it, because there weren’t any filters availble. But I was clicked on the audio output module…not video.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully the new FCS3 will update to reference TC from the original source clip, not the QT media. Or at least keying the tc overlay won’t require rendering the whole thing!

We don’t have a ton of room…seems that the LED’s and plasma’s only come in 40 and above. I was thinking more around 20-30″

working in compressor v3…I can’t find the TC enable function. All I can find is a check box for “Choose start timecode” …then I can manually adjust up from 00:00:00
Is this just available in the new FCS3?

I didn’t know about the TC overlay in compressor. Does that TC start at 0:00:00 from the beginning of the clip? Or referenced to the media from FCP?
Here’s an example of what happens – I record 1 hour of footage. Provide TC dub to project manager. They give me 4 x 30 second clips that they want compiled onto DVD or in video formats.
Now, I digitize 2 minutes of footage and can leave the other 58 minutes off my drives.
That’s where a DVD recorder makes sense in my workflow.

These are TC window dubs that I create all the time. Our current workflow is digitizing footage…laying TC filter in FCP…then exporting mpeg2.
When if I had DVD recorder…I could dub with timecode overlay from our DV deck right to the DVD recorder.
Kick is…it needs to start playing immediately and can’t come up with a stock looking menu.
