This is related to the first question…if I’m working in a compound clip (nested SEQ or submaster) Can I keep the relationship of where I am in the compound clip to where my playhead is when I bounce back out to my primary timeline?

What about portability? To get access to the Matrox on a laptop, u have to have a mxo2 mini, tethered to power. Is elgato worthit for preview on site work that just needs done quickly and can be ok with lower quality?

Shane, how does this compare to the Matrox?

Tc is as solid as any other cam in the last 20yrs. Workflow is exactly the same as the ex3 or any of their sxs media based bpav structure cameras.

Honestly, I don’t like shooting with that cam directly to the ex codec. I’ve used prores encoders via sdi. You have way less compression with prores 422 over xdcam ex.

wow…thanks for this shortcut. I was dying trying to get this to work.

It’s strange behavior…because you can’t just select the clip then use the keyboard shortcut, you have to actually click on the audio line.

You should be able to just select the audio clip and press opt+K, then create keyframe. No good reason I see to have to click on the line, in fact if you aren’t paying attention…you might change the level on accident.

Not sure I understand ur second question, but the “shortcut” to creating audio key frames is to option click while hovering over the audio line. (same method as in fcp7)

I haven’t found a keyboard shortcut for creating an audio keyframe.

Don’t forget that u can make folders at the event manager level…and subfolders. Only difference is these contain keyword collections, not clips.

U literally could make a keyword the same name as a folder in a project organized in finder and rebuild the same structure if u wanted to. Its not completely necessary…play with it, it’s a COMPLETELY different way to organize and find stuff…nowhere near the very linear build that I love, but very clever and if u can figure out how to use it, WAY more powerful than folders inside folders inside folders….

  • This method doesn’t “read” timecode.

  • I’m not sure how big it is honestly…maybe 200GB of prores – 150 clips – 3hrs content? Maybe? It’s my family’s vacation video…I’m not ready to cut client stuff on it yet. Using a family project to get my feet wet.

It’s my first project in FCPX so I haven’t deleted any render files…not really any compositing…maybe 2 graphics right now. It’s only about 10% cut.

  • Hey Jeremy,

Thanks for replying…I spent 4 hours on a plane and I think I figured it out.

Seems I have a corrupt “project”. Here’s how I determined it and how I got my media back:

I was experiencing all kinds of wierdness so I got rid of everything and went to one single project and one event. Everything was working fine.

I brought things back one by one in the project library until I started having issues.

(This was all using event manager which, by the way, is a great app!)

When I bring this ONE project back online, it corrupts the entire app…no projects open correctly and everything gets squirrley. When it’s not in the library, all seems to be working correctly.

How I got my edited sequence back was a couple steps.
    1) open corrupt timeline, nothing shows except 2 clips in the timeline index.
    2) Select the compound clip in the timeline index and “open in timeline”
    3) CMD+A and copy all clips.
    4) Paste all clips into new sequence.

This worked. If I just tried to copy the compound clip, it would create a new corrupt project.

Upon further investigation, I found something very strange that I will attach as an image. There is a gap clip that doesn’t seem to have a duration, (it stays the same size when zooming) and isn’t in the timeline index.

This screengrab was from a much earlier version of this project that I had happened to duplicate. I think this is where the bad things started.

I grabbed 3 views to give you perspective of how it doesn’t change.

Make sense? Clear as mud? 🙂
