Well I can say it works on my G5 with the mighty mouse as I hoped. I find my 2 20-inch widescreens are quite a bit of real estate to cover for such a small tablet. I may have to tweak that a bit.

I will also say that I expect the learning curve to be pretty severe for me. But I’m trying to use it every day for at least a little while. Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut, AE… those are my main apps and it works well with all…. If only I could work it.

Of course! I forgot about that checkbox!

I appreciate all your posts! Looking forward to trying it out on the big machine this week.

Thanks Darby. I am pre-rendering the frame comps, which have animated text, video and a frame. I’ll see if that helps at all.

I suppose the difference is SD to HD is playing the majority of the role in slowing this thing down.. I am just a little shocked that it could take that long. But I do have shadows and light and motion blur etc to contend with.

I’ll let you know how I fare!

    THanks again!

It’s a 3D comp containing an over sized BG, 6 frames with 720p video playing in them, a camera, light, motion blur, DOF… I guess bells and whistles in that regard.

I will go the prerender route and see what happens. Any hoops to be wary of? Should just import and replace the precomps, right?

I have also switched to adaptive res instead of OpenGL.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a whirl!

As I understand it, you have to install the RAM as Darby has described. Which I have, G5 shipped with 2x512MB, I’ve since installed 4x1GB for a total of 5GB.

I’ll have to compare an old SD project and see if it runs slow.

As for the multi-processor setting… that’s the checkbox in the preferences panel, right? I assume that should speed up the previews and renders. Some are taking more than 20 hours!!! And they’re not even that involved…. simple builds.

I’ll run some other tests when I get back to the office on Monday. And for the record… I’m not an early adopter to Leopard. I’d like to be, but I’m a chicken! Or I suppose today, I’d be a turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for responding.

  • Thanks for all the info fellas. As I’ve learned from all of you over the years, don’t be a guinea pig. I’ll wait until we hear all the potential horror stories cycle through the forums It looks very exciting and I’m looking forward to the upgrade, but not at the expense of my system or my clients.

    Good luck out there!

you need FCP 5.1 or better on intel based machines.

Final Cut Studio 2 is Final Cut Pro 6.0.x

    Sorry… Double post

I open the comp I’m currently working on in 7.0 in CS3 and the pixel aspect was all out of whack. But in the comp settings, it’s right (ie: matches my 7.0 comp). I had to stretch out all the layers to make it right.

    Is anyone having that problem?

It seems like it would be, but why would it change when you open an AE7 comp in CS3? I’m in the middle of a 7.0 render right now, but I’ll check it in CS3 and report any PAR differences…

    Weird.
