    Hey all,

I decided to dip a toe into the world of tablets by buying the Wacom Bamboo. It is a small tablet, with pen and no mouse. My hope was that I would be able to use it and my mighty mouse without unplugging one for the other. I just received it and have been trying it on my Macbook Pro. When plugged in, it disables my trackpad.

When I bring it to my G5 PPC suite, with that also be the case? I’m assuming so and that the tablets with mouse included are working through the tablet.

It’s not a big deal, I’m just curious. Does/Can anyone use the mighty mouse with a tablet?

    Thanks!
    Jason

Yeah the mighty mouse should function without any problems with your tablet plugged in. I use the Intuos3 from WACOM and am constantly going back and forth between tablet and mouse. I don’t think ANYBODY actually uses the mouse that comes with the tablets… those are generally of low quality in my opinion.

I do. I find it’s very convenient, it’s comfortable to my hand, it’s wireless, and it has 2 extra buttons that I can program to boot.

Yes, I did the same thing. I bought a wacom bamboo about 4 months ago and I absolutely fell in love with it, though it did take awhile to get used to and get really fast with it. I use it for every application, even final cut. I always have it plugged in with a mouse and havn’t had an issue yet. I have had it plugged in with a mouse on windows computers with out an issue, I’ve had it plugged into various mac’s that had either a mighty mouse, or a logitech mouse, and I haven’t had an issue there either. I have also plugged it into a laptop, but I didn’t bother to check the finger pad thing (I HATE those, as I hate laptops too). I’m not sure what would be causing any trouble, the only advice I can give is to check to make sure you’ve installed the correct drivers off of wacom’s website and/or reinstall the correct drivers, and if the problem still persits, contact wacom.

OPen system preferences. Click Keyboard and mouse. Click Trackpad. Then UNcheck ignore trackpad when mouse is present.

Of course! I forgot about that checkbox!

I appreciate all your posts! Looking forward to trying it out on the big machine this week.

Which tablet specifically was it? Love to know how you find it on the MBP. I have been thinking about doing the same myself, and the Intuos tablets are too expensive. Do you use motion or combustion?

Be great to have your thoughts on it after a little bit of experience. Does it help with RSI as much as everyone says?

I’d also love to hear how the Bamboo fares on FCP. My wrist is really feeling the strain of some long edit days, and I’m curious as to how the Bamboo does compared to the Intuos. Obviously the Intuos is much better in Photoshop/Illustrator, but as a mouse in FCP is it really necessary over the Bamboo?

    Thanks!

Holy heck, yes it does. It helped me tremendously with that.

Well I can say it works on my G5 with the mighty mouse as I hoped. I find my 2 20-inch widescreens are quite a bit of real estate to cover for such a small tablet. I may have to tweak that a bit.

I will also say that I expect the learning curve to be pretty severe for me. But I’m trying to use it every day for at least a little while. Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut, AE… those are my main apps and it works well with all…. If only I could work it.

Sorry if this is a little bit off-topic, but does anyone know if it’s possible to jerry rig the Intuos drivers for the Bamboo Fun? Wacom crippled the application-specific features on the Bamboo…

    Thanks!
