I actually tried that first, but when I change the clip names and/or reel names of the copies it changes the clip names in Bin A also.

January 18, 2006 at 10:33 pm in reply to: 4:1:1 DV offline to 4:2:2 output for Broadcast.

I shoot most everything on my DSR500ws DVCAM camera (4:1:1). I then go component out of my DSR-45 DVCAM deck to an AJA io box which sends my signal over firewire to a 10-bit uncompressed project. I can edit in 10-bit 4:2:2 timeline (without having to render the original captured footage) and output my uncompressed signal via firewire to the AJA and then to Digibeta or whatever without losing quality.

I think the AJA box costs around $1,500 – $2,000. They make them with component in/out and SDI in/out.

    hope this helps.

That fixed it! Thank you. It was under Menu: Display: EE/PB Sel. I set it to PB. Not sure what that means, but no more loud hums!

Yes. When I playback my timeline or preview window, my audio plays in my tower. Nothing is playing back through firewire.

Everything is hooked up properly and I’ve looked through Audio/video settings to check for an incorrect setting , but can’t find anything wrong. It should be playing back on my external video monitor and speakers, but it;s not.

    No hardware or software changes.
How do I delete the preferences in FCP?

In your audio/video settings, do you have the AJA selected as the output device for video and audio when you are trying to use it for playback of the timeline?
In audio/video settings, PROIO (AJA) is selected.

What is feeding your video monitor, if you have one?
My monitor is connected via composite BNC from the deck.

How many of the audio channels are you using 2 or 4?
I’m using 2 channels of audio. The other 2 channels are disconnected. I’ve tried connecting them and it still didn’t work, so I disconnected them.

When you say you get audio to play in your monitors from the deck, is that while it is hooked up to the AJA, i.e. the signal is passing through the AJA back to your mixer?
Yes. The deck is connected to the AJA breakout cable and the breakout cable is hooked to the mixer.

When you switch over to firewire do you set your audio output to DV?
When I switch to firewire, I set the audio and video to firewire DV.

I’ve searched high and low for other playback settings with no luck. I just can’t figure out why playback is in my tower. I believe everything is connected correctly to my AJA, because it worked fine a couple of days ago and when I playback a tape in the deck, I get playback on my studio monitors.

The connector is fine and the output settings are set to 2 channels.
Thanks for your help. I guess I need to call Promax tomorrow morning.

I’ve tried playback with 3 different clips. (Audio playback is set to ProIO.)
    1. A clip that was captured by Promax (meters are jumping, but no sound to audio board)
    2. A clip that I captured from my deck via AJA (the meters on my deck are jumping, but no audio was captured)
    3. Bars and tone (meter in FCP shows audio playing, but nothing out to mixer)

My mixer is a Mackie DFX-6. I’ve tested Channels 1&2 by bypassing the AJA and going straigt in from the deck. Playback to my speakers was fine then.

And no, I don’t have my deck’s firewire connected to anything. My AJA is connected to my computer via firewire.

The audio breakout cable provided with the AJA has four XLR ins and four XLR outs. Four are connected to the XLR outs on my deck and four are connected to the 1st four channels of my mixer.

My last post went out before I read yours. I have everything I can find set to ProIO. In Audio/Video Settings I have my video set to Betacam 8 bit uncompressed.

I realize there’s going to be a huge learning curve, since I have not only switched to FCP, but I also switched from PC to Mac.
