im just gonna stick with splittig layers as Im half way through it already, but that expression is going in my archives for the next time I have to do this. Ill try the layer trick with my precomps and see if that works, thanks for the help

oh fun, well I’ve deffinately got my work cut out for me today.

Another issue I was facing was the ramp is in a pre-comp and then I have elements that come out of the ramp that are in seperate pre-comps. With the 2d layer in the ramp pre-comp, the elements in their own pre-comps don’t interact with the ramp as they did before and are peaking through layers. Do I need to do the same trick else where or turn off the 2d layer at that point?

thanks for the tip. the 2d layer helped me a few times but I am rotating 360 degrees around the ramp and that trick seems to only work on one side. I’ll play around with it more but it has not been 100% successful. Maybe I have it between the wrong layers.

I unfortunately am working with 203 layers.

I had an issue with this error as well but I don’t think it was a QT error. I was running the cartoon effect in AE CS4, it didn’t start giving me this error until I reached the final 3 shots for my client. The only way I could get it to export was by turning the cartoon filter off. I played with the advanced settings and turning OpenGL on and off but with no success.

I’m gonna trouble shoot it some more after I deliver all my files.

I figured as much. Ideally, if I could afford it, I would go that extreme a take use of the mercury engine.

For now, slow turn around, I guess that is why I dont charge $350/hr for color correction.

I did mention I was using After Effects CS4.

Beyond that – AMD Athalon x64 Duo-Core, 2 GB ram. I usually run off of an internal SATA 2.0 drive or Firewire 400. OS is Win XP Pro.

Genius – that was it. Thanks a million!

It is labled in AE CS4 as “Performance: (check box)’Use OpenGL When Available'”

Haven’t tried it on another computer as I don’t have access to one at the moment. Currently my OpenGL setting is turned off, I also tried it with it turned on – no success. Everything else works the same with my graphics card, I’ll do some diagnostics to see if I can find an issue.

Aparently the only way to convert files to DVCPRO HD on a pc, from the research I had found, is to use the DVFILM Raylight Encoder Pro. Goes for about $150.

I ended up calling up a friend who has a Final Cut Suite and we converted the files to ProRes 422 – cheaper than the $150

I looked into SheerVideo but it does not give me the option to export as a Quicktime DVCPRO HD format, which is what is requested by the post house.
