Since this question passes the forum regulary I gave it a try.
I couldn’t get closer than “Making it look like 3D”
This workflow only works in certain conditions when the camera is at a “top-angle”

    Download the file at:
    https://preview.visueel.net/Frame_revolving_MR2.zip

It’s mainly about rotating the layers,
make them “look” curved with the reshape Plug In
And used Dan Ebberts’s script to show the Front/Back of the Video.

    otherwise… you’ll have to start 3D animation 🙂

One way would be to Change your Main Comp’s setting to 1080 and increase the Zoom of the camera, but I’m affraid DOF won’t be correct after this.

A lot depends on the footage and assets-size you’re using.
I only made Graphics for large projections 2-3 times.
The graphics were mainly text and HiRes pictures.

    My workflow was;
-import all assets in highest resolution and quality
-create low quality Proxy’s from stills and video (jpg’s and mjpgb video)
-create a comp in 333×1796 (in your case)
-complete making the animation (don’t scale down assets using plugins but use AE’s scale)(previewing the animation works at this kind of resolution)
-create a new comp in 2000×10777 and drag your first comp into it
-scale it to full-screen (it will look blurry)
-enable the “Collapse transformations” switch on the comp’s layer (most assets will look sharp)
-and render this final without the proxy’s

not all kind of effects scale well this way,
but there’ll always be limitations working in that res !
Do some testing wether the effects used will scale up ok !!

  • If it’s just a straight zoom back;
precomp your animation (keep it 1920×1080),
continue the zoom-back with the “Motion tile” plug-in in your new comp.

January 21, 2008 at 4:52 pm in reply to: ways to reduce banding?

And don’t forget that MPG2 for DVD is 8bit, so even if you have a 10-12bit Panel, your DVD-source will contain banding !
Adding a small amount of noise is the only way !

Using XP64 will not speed up AE cause AE is still 32bit!
The only reason to choose XP64 is when you need more than 4GB memory.
AE CS3 is capable of using multiple Core/CPU for rendering or for AE7 you can use Nucleo Pro, the two can be used in XP32 and XP64.
On the other hand, Multiprocessor/core rendering eats a lot of memory …….

check the forum for topics on XP64 and Multicore.

Just spent some time reading the Microsoft-site and…
XP32 only supports 4GB Ram, even Vista32 does!

    https://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx

so anything more than 4GB will need XP64 or Vista64.

correct me if I’m wrong but …
XP32 can only “see” 3.5GB of Ram, so total usage of AE(4cores) will be 3.5GB.
XP64 can “see” 8GB Ram so it can adress 4x 2GB per core (=8GB).
That’s the reason why people switch to XP64, to use more than 3.5 GB.

I only used Open-GL in AE 2 times when working on specific 2.5D animations, let’s say 2 out of 100 projects… and it worked great on a Game-Card but it doesn’t justify the money for a Quadro-card.
So save your money, buy an extra Hard disk for your Raid ! Disk throughput tends to be a bottleneck on a Quadcore when using lots of videolayers, especially in HD.

    I’m running a Quad6600, 8GB Ram, 3x500GB Raid0 and glad to have left XP32 for XP64 🙂

Looks like a nice setup !

A 440W power supply would be “on the edge” in case of the 6disks raid, get a 500W or even better 600W power supply. Take a look at OCZ or Coolermaster they are very stable!!,silent and have a high energy efficiency wich will earn their cost back in the long run (energy bills!)

Make sure you keep the raid on the Intel Raid controller for best performance.

As you said; 6xRaid0+1(750GB) is faster than 4xRaid0+1(1000GB), not only in throughput but also in disk access. Let’s say you have 5 Picture-in-pictures in your comp and render to the same Raid, here you’ll see a major speedincrease using more disk in your Raid0 setup.

Overclocking the Q6600 would need a decent Coller too.
