When you move to Vista64, try to add some ram also.
Find out how much memory your motherboard can handle and fill it up.
Moving from Vista32 with 3GB to Vista64 with 3GB won’t make much difference; your computer uses memory for hardware too (Graphic Cards)
going to 4GB or 8GB (if your motherboard alows it) would be the best thing to do.

Since both OS’s are running on Intel, there’s no noticable difference in performance. Your configuration is what matters and just choose an OS you like !
but … don’t shoot me,
there’s one small difference wich makes me choose for XP64…
AE on OSX can use 3Gb memory (single instance) and XP64 can use 4GB.
that’s all !

Personally,
AE-projects don’t leave my computer,
unless they ask me to make templates.
If you know what they want, you can pre-render some backgrounds and stuff and you can convert expressions to keyframes.
That is… if you know it at the beginning of the project !

Demanding the source AEfiles after the project, always gets a no-go !

The only good pricing is what you feel comfortable with, and if they pay it, you’re still screwed cause it means they can make a lot more money out of it 😉

Knowledge is only a small part of your project, creativity is the biggest part.
So if they buy a part of your knowledge, they can only make the same thing over and over again !

I could say… try Fusion by Eyeon,
but your budget needs to be spent on hardware first !

Premiere needs a blackmagic- or AJA-card too.
The most basic one would be the Blackmagic Intensity,
it gives you component/composite/YC and HDMI with a very affordable pricing. The card works on OSX, WIN XP-VISTA and WIN XP64-VISTA64.

but … real-time HD 1920×1080 isn’t possible yet 🙁

AE doens’t support video-preview through your graphics-card,
you’ll need a card like Blackmagic or AJA, or a camera with IEEE1394,
to view your workspace on an external monitor.

XP over Vista
Since Vista isn’t anything more than a brushed-up XP, but is much more resource-hungry, I’ll stick with XP for now.
When vista gets mature or when a new windows comes around… i’ll check again.

64bit over 32bit
There are some difficulties to overcome with X64,
most of them are hardware some software.
But once you’ve been working on 8- or 16GB Ram machine and fool around with Full-HD…. you’ll never go back !

I’m not a real Mac-Hardware specialist, so somebody correct me if i’m wrong…
Your Mac supports 4 internal SataII connections, so if your using 5 disks, you’ll still need a PCIe Raid controller.
I don’t know Maxupgrades, but the site is all about Power Mac G5, so check that the “Maxconnect Optical Drive Bay” fits in a Intel Xeon system !!!
