Oops, sorry about that. I was thinking of something else.

There are a couple of reasons this message might appear. One that is sometimes a little obscure is that you may have had been working on a project that was using media from an external source, i.e., external hard drive. The next time when you open your project and do not have the hard drive connected, Vegas cannot find the media and will give you this message. It basically means Vegas cannot find the media so Vegas is giving you the option of letting the program look for it, you specifying a replacement file, or just allowing it to remain offline. I find it beneficial to remember to move all media I am using on a project into the same directory as the project itself.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the screen shots and great tips. I have recently switched over to shooting HD footage. Right now I have a combination of HD and DV footage but I plan to try out your settings when I actually get to shoot all my projects in HD and then make a regular DVD for my clients. The change that I have put into place for my current mix of footage is to change Video Quality to high in DVDA. I normally shoot videos that will be about 10 minutes or so long but then I put several different projects on one DVD that will amount to about 1.5 hours of total video. Do you think I should change any other settings to give me the best quality. I am using the widescreen template in Vegas and DVDA.
Again, awesome help!!!

I hope someone answers you. I find myself in the same situation shooting 1080p footage along with regular DV footage. I’m not sure what settings to use in the project as well as for rendering to DVDA to complete a video that can be shown as close to high def as possible on a stand alone DVD player in the United States.

Hi Nigel –
I would like to maximize how many videos I put on the DVD for the grandparents. I have several that are similar to this in that there is not a lot of fast action so the more I can get on the better!
Thank you for the inquiry.

Thank you Danny and Jaymes for getting back to me. I’ll give the bit rate calculator a try. I’m not sure the MP4 format will work for me because I have to make a DVD that will play on a regular DVD player (for the grandparents and they can barely operate that). I think I’ll give your settings a try though Jaymes just to see what happens.

Thank you again for getting back to me so quickly. I did not see the bars to the left of Ultimate S when I opened the program so I just grabbed the top of the program and managed to dock it that way. I finally have everything working with help from you and Mike.
I now have to change my earlier statement – you two are the men!

Thank you for taking the time to get back to me. I left a message about this issue on the VASST website so you can delete that if you would like. I have opened and closed Vegas several times without the icons showing up. This last time I shut down the computer completely and now the icons are showing up – not sure for how long but at least they are there now! I assume the instructions for docking Ultimate S is in the manual?

You are the man! It worked. I have no idea how you knew where to find this setting since I don’t recall changing anything when I installed Vegas 10. At any rate, I can finally continue happily editing.
I will wait to hear from John on my other issue since this fix did not resolve that issue.
Again, thank you for your help.
