Media Offline?
Posted by Mark Krueger on February 7, 2012 at 1:18 amWhat does it mean when you get “Media Offline” shown on media in the timeline. It appears at times when I have not changed anything in the project.

February 7, 2012 at 1:28 amThere are a couple of reasons this message might appear. One that is sometimes a little obscure is that you may have had been working on a project that was using media from an external source, i.e., external hard drive. The next time when you open your project and do not have the hard drive connected, Vegas cannot find the media and will give you this message. It basically means Vegas cannot find the media so Vegas is giving you the option of letting the program look for it, you specifying a replacement file, or just allowing it to remain offline. I find it beneficial to remember to move all media I am using on a project into the same directory as the project itself.
Hope this helps.

February 7, 2012 at 4:43 amThe “Media Offline” in the track thumbnail is normal. If you go to a window outside of Vegas, the media files are closed. This is to permit you to edit them in another program – usually Photoshop or Sound Forge.

February 7, 2012 at 9:00 pmNice call, Stephen! I had wondered about this, did not worry because as soon as I would move my cursor to the time range of the “off line media”, it would come back. But , it is good to know why.
