There is no such camera as the HPX2600. Shane had a typo, it is an AJ-HPX2700.

DVCPRO HD has a prefiter in 1920 X 1080, making it 1280 X 1080 at 60Hz or 1440 X 1080 in 50Hz. AVC-Intra, available on the HPX300 and the HPX2700 has a full raster recorind at 1920 X 1080.

Hi,

You could doctor them to be compatible. Save a set of scene files on your Euro camera. Open the file with a text editor. At the top of the file you will see a header that identifies your camera. Copy and past that into the file you downloaded over the top of the same lines that id the the US camera. Then as far as the frame rates, wait until you have loaded the file into your camera and then go through the scene file on the camera and set the frame rates you want. Then save it back to the card with the correct frame rates.

I would concur with Shane that if the rolling shutter artifact cannot be lived with. I mean there is a fix you can apply in post on the singular annoying frame, or frames, then a CCD camera is the way to go. The HPX500 is the next camera up the line, and the next one up with AVC-Inta is the HPX2700.

It really depends on if you have the switch on the CAM or on the VTR. Little switch on the side of the camera under the door.

This is because it has gone through the compression and DVCPRO HD is 8 bit.

They really should do their homework down there and try it. It does do flagged frames on its recording and I have removed them from DVCPRO HD. I have even pulled out a ramped piece in FCP that I recorded from a Varicam on the P2 Portable. There is a piece of software being developed by DVFilm that will remove the flagged frames from the AVC-Intra. That plug-in will be available about the same time as the P2 Portable.

I have seen this more than once. Uninstall the SxS driver. There is something there that works against the P2 Drivers. It perhaps is using the same path for something. Whatever, Uninstall the SxS and it will be fine.

Which tape were you thinking about recording to? The tape in the HVX200 only records DV.

In the DV format you only have 2 channels on this camera. In HD, yes there are 4 channels and yes they would all be recorded on to the P2 cards.

This method would get you the recorded material, but would not help a great deal when it comes to the archive of that material. One of the things that we all need to think about as we move to a tapeless, data-based wrkflow is how are you going to find your shots later and the answer is in the metadata. There is a Metadata workflow paper on our website http://www.panaosnic.com/p2hd under the resources area.

As far as the rest of the discussion in discontinuing the tape-based Varicam, I know from the user perspective it seems odd to discontinue because it has become a defacto standard in the production arena. Having the manufacture discontinue something does not mean that the product is dead. Look at the SDX900, it is still one of the most popular standard definition rentals out there.

And as Chris pointed out, the P2 Portable, AG-HPG20, does allow owners to extend the life of their Varicam and get a taste of what it is like to work in File-based workflow. I actually have a customer that is doing this with his HDX900 and is hooked on handing the client the tape and doing the edit that evening off the P2. Client needs the tapes for thier archive as they have not figured out a file-based archive yet.
