  • Hello Mike,
Thank you for the tip and raised hope, however, in looking at my preferences, I found mine has always been checked. I guess I’ll hope for 9b soon, or continue on researching Edius.

Thanks for taking out time to respond.

  • Mike,
I can certainly understand. I love Vegas and have been a user since 4.0 or so. A little over a year ago I bought a Matrox RT.x2 because of the memory usage issues and the inability to render off the timeline. I just couldn’t adjust to Premiere. I soon remembered why I got rid of it in the early days. Now my Matrox is up for sale. I’m now considering Edius if Sony doesn’t get it together. I guess I’m tired of being a beta tester for that pays for the program on top of it.

Sorry about the rant. I don’t know what we’d do without the dedicated people like yourself helping us through the continuous growing pains. All in all I still love Vegas.

    Thanks again,
    Jan

  • Mike,
Thank you for the input and assistance. At least I know it’s hopefully being dealt with.

Yes, all project settings are for HDV and the preview is set at best-full. The footage was shot in dim surroundings so I was surprised to see the footage in the capture window look so clean. Upon playback in the preview window you can clearly see grain in the darker areas which wasn’t apparent in the capture window. I didn’t know if the capturing process compressed the footage further or did some kind of conversion resulting in changing the quality of the image.

Thankyou Douglas. I felt it was a non issue for the most part, but mostly just curious. In the end, I’m just happy to have the system finally running.

With all that has been tried with no success, and a lot of input and inspiration from Ken, I got thinking about some of the main differences in hardware between the two machines. Everything was pretty similar. Of course the main difference being two duo core processors vs one duo core. They both have Nvidia graphics cards which were interchanged and functioned on the one computer. The problem computer does have the matrox card, which has not been installed in the other machine. another difference is that the problem machine has an M-Audio Revolution 5.1 audio card and the working machine uses onboard audio. Before taking out one of the Xeons and uninstalling the Matrox system, I thought I would try the simplest things first. When I was on the phone with Sony tech support for a couple of hours, I remember him having me boot in safe mode which made the splash screen freeze rather than just disappear. One of my assistants who is in computer school thought I should take note at what point the screen freezes in safe mode. It was when it tried to build the audio engine. I took out the M-Audio card rebooted, and launched Vegas Pro 8a with no issues what so ever. My disappointment is that Sony support knew everything installed in my system, but didn’t consider the audio card even after they had me boot in safe mode with the same results.
I would like to thank all who read and contributed in the solution of this problem. A special thanks to Ken who spent a great deal of time emailing me and troubleshooting. This collection of knowledge and willingness to help others is what makes Creative Cow what it is….a valuable resource.

    My gratitude to all.

I googled the dependency checker, but all the sites were rather odd. There was no actual download. When I clicked on download now, it launched another page with more programs. How would I go about turning off MSSql and MM? Or should I uninstall them all together?
I have installed the software on the other computer and it runs with no issues.

    Hello Ken,
We did pull some memory and switch cards prior to my post, but didn’t disable a processor. In checking the logs. Under system there was one error and one warning. They had Dhcp after them. In application there were no erros or warnings since 10/23/07. The warnings were related to MSSQL Sony Media manager.
I shut down all non necessary programs running in the background then launched vegas while I had the task mgr open. Vegas 8 appeared during the attempt to lanuch, then disappeared along with the splash screen. It never gives an error, just disappears like nothing happened.

Thank you for your time and thoughts. It is appreciated.

    Hello Douglas,
Thank you for responding. I have attended many of your seminars and respect your vast knowledge(no pun intended). I too have run every generation of Vegas since version 4 on every level of computer along the way. I have never had an issue like this. I actually get no message at all. It starts to launch, then the splash screen just disappears and life goes on with no adverse effects. I too felt it was a windows issue so we reformatted the drive and did a total reinstall of everything. The same thing happened. Even after downloading 8a I had the same results. All the other software on the system works with no issues, even Microsoft Office, which I use rarely and only for Word. I’m considering the possibility that the Matrox hardware/software doesn’t play well with others. I know this machine would really be a nice combination with Vegas Pro 8 if I could get it running.

    Thanks again for your response,
