I’m not sure. However you lay it out in icon view should be sticky unless you start deleting, nesting or duplicating things. Of course list view always sorts as a list should and changes there will be reflected in Icon view.Software Quality Assurance – Digital Video at Adobe Systems

Your screenshot is helpful but I can’t tell what the brightness is doing because you have no monitor showing in your workspace. Also the UI has changed a lot since the version you’re on (CS6 right?) so it’s hard to tell just what might be getting you in trouble. If yo can provide some detailed steps of what you did as well as a screenshot showing the actual video output (make sure you compare it to what it looks like with no effect applied at all) then I might be able to tell if you’re just missing some step vs having some sort of GPU or other display problem.

You’re not missing something, that’s the expected behavior. The purpose of the icon view is to put all of the visual focus on the media, including allowing users to scrub or play from there. You need to be in list view to see label colors along with other metadata set to display in the project panel. (you can use “Metadata Display” from the project panel wing menu to turn those on and off)

If you set your Video Display Format to “Frames” then you can just put the playhead on the frame you’re looking for and note that value. If you do that in the source monitor, the value will be absolute to the source clip. If you do it in the program monitor, it will be relative to the sequence.
It may still require some math in certain scenarios but will be way easier than converting timecode yourself. Another trick, if ti works for your case, is to apply the timecode effect and set it to show frames. Files can be exported that way so that timecode (or in this case frame-code) will be burned in for easy and unambiguous reference.

Why were you advised to nest everything before doing the time remapping? I’m not saying that’s wrong, but I usually do it per clip because it can get pretty confusing otherwise.
The other two items which you added as edits later were n’t really making sense to me. If you’re getting blackouts while playing where you know there is video then that sounds like a driver issue. So updating your driver is a good place to start if you have not yet.

Are you ready to upgrade to 8.2 at this time? If so, then perhaps an uninstall/reinstall would be in order anyways.
Otherwise try trashing your prefs first. (hold shift + alt at startup) -

Another option is to import all files as an image sequence so that they will be treated as a single clip in PrPro. But I actually prefer Joe’s method because you have separate control over each and every frame if needed. It can still sort of be treated as a clip that way if you put them all inside a nested sequence.
