    thanks again

the mts files are double pal at 1920 x 1088 shot on the panasonic hdc sd10 but i have tried converting them to avi on avidemux

when checking properties of these ones it says ffdshow video codec under the format bit on media tab. These are the converted avi files as i cant do anything with the mts files

so one problem that will be impossible to sidestep is the ghosting due to mix of pal and ntsc but can i deinterlace the converted mts files and bis there a better way i can convert the mts files like rendering them into progresive files?

and ultimately what is the correct render settings for me

    cheers

    thanks matt very helpful

[Matt Crowley] “looks like blending (due to bad deinterlacing, possibly in your MTS>AVI conversion) “

Yes i think your right there, could you possibly explain to me what deinterlacing is and how i can use/alter it

[Matt Crowley] “What formats are the source videos, and what format is the project/output?”

    the file types are:

mov –> avi which converted fine I think
MPEG 4 , works fine in vegas
    and MTS to avi (MJPEG)

and ive tried rendering in avi, wmv and AVC, all with some negative quality effects.

[Matt Crowley] “You can try disabling resampling on the video clips that are not at the project frame rate. This will reduce any ghosting caused by Vegas synthesizing frames to match framerates, but you may get a bit of juddering on smooth/fast motion.

Set your project to the highest resolution and framerate of the cameras and select Blend or Interpolate as the project deinterlace method (experiment to see which works best).”

    Thank you, very helpful

very helpful john thanks, but a few things in instant reply to this

[John Rofrano] “I would start by getting rid of anything you converted because the conversion to AVI could be what’s messing you up”

yes i think your right there, but the thing is i cant open these mts files in anything and not vegas. I can convert them in avidemux but are there certain settings needed or is there a plug in i can get to make it accept mts files.

[John Rofrano] “Also look at the clips media properties in Vegas and make sure that Vegas is interpreting them all correctly.”

What do you mean by this? checking that they are all play correctly in project window, without the wavey effect?

[John Rofrano] “You are going to get some ghosting because you are mixing 50fps PAL with 60i NTSC footage. Vegas isn’t going to have to create some new frames by blending two existing frames.”

so it cant duplicate or blend the frames because theres the mix of ntsc and pal??

    thanks very much john

  • just tried this and the presets all say memory stick or blu ray and the videos play with poor quality and wavy lines

could a solution be to render different parts of the project to their correct quality and framerate then put them together?
    quite a long process though

im not really sure what to do with the bottom half of your message.

So you think its to do with the render settings i have selected? or the conversion of mts to avi?

Its very hard getting the best out if videos taken with 3 different camera, 3 different resolutions and 3 different frame rates. Do i need to resample the videos or do i just set the render settings as the maximum frame rate and resolution of any videos in project?

  • online at youtube
but it would be nicxe to have each video to its full quality

thats what im wandering though, how can i prserve each videos quality when rendering if i have various formats, resolutions and frame rastes and what render settings should i use.

    hmm thats interesting. whats i7?

I solved this by changing the frame rate to 50 before i converted the files into MJEG-AVI files on Avi demux

    large file sizes though

my files are mpeg4 but some went offline so i converted those ones to avi as you suggested kindly using avidemux

i can now not render on anything. just tried that sony mpg one but it closes and says error message “an error occured-an exception has been made” then just a long script of jibberish and it closes after pressing okay
