Right; I waited for the little “conforming bar” in the corner to complete before I play the timeline.

My storage is a dual-tower SataMAX RAID configuration.

    Here are my general settings:

What’s the upgrade procedure? Install the new 3.0 drivers then CS3? Does it matter? Does CS2 need uninstalled prior to the installation of CS3, or will CS3 simply install “over” CS2?

This problem isn’t occurring on my workstation, so it’s a little difficult for me to express the issues.

The project in question is one that has mostly all DV (720×480) clips (captured via Firewire), and a few 720×486 MOV files that were rendered in AE as AJA Quicktimes. It’s an AJA DV project, so we are able to view and edit with an external monitor. It’s in this project where some clips (with video effects applied to them) are playing back black on both the TV monitor, and on the “program” monitor window in Premiere. When you pause the playhead on one of these “black” clips, the video appears. But once you start playing, it goes black again.

The audio plays back normally in that situation.

BUT, if we create a standard DV project and IMPORT that previous project in, we re-render all the clips, and they play just fine.

Of course, in this project, we can’t see the video in on the TV, and we can’t output to a BetaCam SP tape.

It now *appears* that the black previews in question are all AVI files that were captured via firewire into a standard DV project, not an AJA DV project.

I cannot confirm this, as I wasn’t the one who captured the clips.

Is there a difference in AJA AVIs and standard DV AVIs?

Another point: I imported the problematic project into a standard DV project in Premiere (the video doesn’t play on our external monitor in this type of project), and all seems to render fine. It’s only when the project is displaying the video externally on a TV monitor that this problem arises.

    Make sense?

Sorry, I posted this in it’s own thread when I MEANT to post it under my other related thread.

And since I can’t edit or delete my posts, you’re stuck with it.

(I really wish you can edit your posts here…)

Here’s some more information on my problem:

    1. Latest AJA drivers installed.

    2. Quicktime 7.2 installed (this also happened with v7.1.5 installed)

    3. It *seems* only the clips that play BLACK are those that have more than ONE video effect applied to it. Like, Levels and ProAmp, or Color Balance and Levels, etc. Levels alone, or ProcAmp alone will let the clips render and play just fine.

    4. *But*, at least ONE clip on my timeline has 2 effects on it (Levels and Color Balance), and it PLAYS. Go figure.

Wait, this just in, they guy who’s editor that is just told me that some clips still won’t render regardless of the number of effects applied to it (i.e., none, one, two, etc.).

And even at least one clip with NO effect simply won’t play; it’s just black, but the associated audio with it does play.

So, all my theories are blown out of the water.

Here’s something else to ponder: two of our four AJA Xena workstations mysteriously had their keyboard shortcuts reset to the defaults. It appears to have happened overnight. Was there an Adobe update that is causing all this woe?

It’s not too big a deal. It only happens the first time I use the Titler in a new project. Once I “fix” it, it doesn’t happen until a new project is started.

I’m not about to possibly screw something else up to try and fix this minor nuisance.

I did a little more trouble shooting on this titler thing.

It appears that when I open the titler while in a SD 720x486i job, the output jumps to 1920x1080i. Hence, the static.

When I return to the timeline, the output returns to 720x486i.

If when I’m in the titler, and the output has jumped to 1920x1080i, I can go to Project… Project Settings… General… Playback Settings… and manually force it back to 720x486i mode.

From then on, that job will be fine; future instances of the titler will correctly display at 720x486i mode.

But the process starts over again with a new job.

This doesn’t appear to happen in a 1280×720 job; the titler behaves in a HD job.

Odd? Bug? Incompatibality? Wrong setting on my part?

    Something else (sorry).

Now with 2.6, when I open the titler, my TV monitor seems to jump into a resolution it can’t handle. It gets all staticy and looses sync.

When I exit the titler and return to the timeline, the TV reverts back to the normal 720x486i state.

Is there some setting I’m not seeing? Perhaps in Machina?

    I didn’t have this issue in 2.0.2.0.

I have the Xena LH card. My monitor is getting it’s signal via SDI. It’s not a HD monitor. It’s a Sony PVM-20L5 minus the ~$4,000 HD card.

I’ve noticed now with 2.6 installed, the first time I open a project and play one of the timelines, there’s no audio playing from my speakers.

If I minimize and maximize Premiere, the audio then plays fine.

I noticed this occasionally with my old 2.0.2.0 driver installed, but now with 2.6, it seems to happen much more frequently.

It’s not a big deal, now that it’s much more tolerable to minimize and maximize Premiere with 2.6 (no more dreaded lag), but still, slightly annoying (and a little heart-stopping) nonetheless.
