I think I may know why the install for my LS 2.5.1 workstation failed; I tried to use the LH 2.6 setup on it.
Are the LS and LH setup files different and specifically made for the LS or the LH?
If so, perhaps that should be noted somewhere on your site. Maybe in the filename itself?

Thanks. I just finished upgrading 2 of our 4 systems (the two LH workstations; the other two are LS).
I tried to upgrade one of the LSes that has 2.5.1 on it, but it gave some cryptic error regarding some documentation for 2.5.1 that it can’t read. The upgrade then fails. Since it fails during the initial “registering the product” phase, nothing was changed.
So, for the time being, I’ll leave that workstation at 2.5.1. It’s a “spare” workstation used mostly for DV projects anyhow.

I’d be upgrading from 2.0.2.0. Would I expect a smooth upgrade? This won’t affect AE and PPro projects created in 2.0.2.0, would it?
Is it as simple as running the install? Will all my preferences remain in tact? What about backwards-compatibility with projects created with 2.0.2.0 or other workstations in my company that may not perform this upgrade immediately? (We all “share” projects at times.)
Sorry for all the questions; I once had a bad experience upgrading my previous workstation’s Bluefish444 drivers, and now I’m cautious about any similar upgrades.

Actually, if there’s a particularly “tricky” key or effect I’m working on for a particular shot, I *do* grab the shot in HD (720p) mode, so I can work on the clip better.
But, for the most part, we grab via SDI in at 720×486 resolution via our Xena LH cards.
Thanks.

We have 4 Premiere Pro 2.0 workstations (2 Xena LH, 2 Xena LS). If we only upgrade the two LH workstations, will we still be able to “share” projects? (i.e., opening a 3.0 project back on an old 2.0 workstation and visa versa?)

Thanks for the tip. I’ll pass this on to our shooters.
I’m a little confused about the 180-degree shutter rule you mentioned.
Standard 60i shooting with no shutter on is really shooting with a shutter of 1/60, right?
So, if we shoot 30P, what should the shutter be set to? And, will this change the overall “look” of the video, thus rendering shooting in 30P “useless”? (i.e., might as well shoot 60i?)

I’m not the shooter. I post what others shoot. So I don’t know off-hand what was used. I can ask next time I see them.
If I had to guess, I’d say they didn’t use any special shutter settings.

Yea, I tried quite a few things. All had the same issues.
But I did do the same move with the same video clips in Premiere, and the result was MUCH better. I’d like to know why, because that shows that this move can be successfully done with these video clips, just not in AE with my current settings. (See the two video clips samples in the above post.)
There’s got to be a reason that AE has such an issue in this situation. I wonder if there’s a setting I need to adjust.
I thought it might have been because of the 30P content, but standard 60i BetaCam footage also has the same odd interlacing effect when rendered in AE.
Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the input.
For the heck of it, I tried this same effect in Premiere using the same clip files.
And, it seems to be much better.
My question is why? Why does the same right-to-left movement in Premiere do so much better than After Effects?
There’s got to be some setting in AE that would let me do this movement in that app; doing this effect in Premiere wasn’t as easy as it is creating it in AE.
Here’s the clip: https://www.rynopro.com/stuff/TEST2.mov
This one is 175MB for some reason.—
