Pre-compose + Collapse Transformations works with the C4D renderer.

Double your RAM and edit in HD instead of UHD. That’s my off-the-cuff, zero warranty opinion ☺ Also, I bet Puget Systems has some articles that you might find informative.

Upping the renderer settings didn’t help, Michael, but thanks for the lead. You could be right about this being a job for C4D but I should be able to pull it off in 2.5D.

I actually didn’t have any c4d layers in there (yet). Just psd layers. But would that matter? As I understand it, Cinema 4D renderer can handle a mix of 2D and 3D together. But I think you’ve pointed me in the right direction, Steve. My layers only bug out at the keyframe where everything settles down on the same plane (when using the C4D renderer). I don’t expect you good folks to solve this for me any more than you already have, so I’ll stick with the classic renderer for now and study up on the Cinema 4D renderer later. Thanks for your time.

March 3, 2019 at 3:15 am in reply to: Changing Axis alignment

Correct, Steve. It’s like the pan-behind tool had a cousin that could rotate the axis. I tried the null-parenting and it works swell. Thanks. Not the 1-stop fix C4D has, but simple enough.

If anyone’s interested in (but still confused about) what I’m trying to accomplish, I have a layer with some artwork that is drawn at an angle. The axis is aligned with the layer orientation, not the artwork’s visual orientation, making accurate, single-axis rotation difficult.

Like many compositing jobs, it looks like yours will require a mixed toolset of keying, tracking, masking, etc. Dissect the scene into pieces and sub-chunks, and ask what the right tool for each piece is, then put it all back together and slap some makeup on the stitches.

In case you haven’t finished editing your expressions one by one (5 months later), one solution I found is pt_Express_Edit

Sounds similar to my glitch: I’ve got a main comp in which I’m assembling sections of an animation. I WAS sending each of those sub-comps to render individually, but AE recently started taking forever to load/render them. BUT when I render them out from the main comp, it seems to work fine. Not ideal, but if it gets ya through the job…

This is what worked for me, but the Key Properties window wasn’t visible until i switched to Standard layout.

Please do away with scroll-to-zoom, as this is NOT a useful function. Says me.

FYI, i have a 9600 in my G4, and it crashes Final Cut. Only Final Cut Pro so far, though. I’ve successfully opened the rest of the suite, although i haven’t tried to do anything in it yet since i’ve only been using the G4 for conversions.
