Stuck on “rendering 2 frames” for ages
Posted by Olly Lawer on May 13, 2014 at 11:52 amWe’ve got MP turned on. Keeps getting stuck on “rendering 2 frames” for ages…then finally ploughs through the animation.
The Mac Pro used to do this, but since we got a thunderbolt SSD, it is better. Funny thing is, the PC has two internal SSDs and one is solely for AE renders!
Any ideas?

May 13, 2014 at 4:35 pmRuled out all apart from the top one (happens no matter the project or effects).
What do you mean by bad settings?

May 13, 2014 at 4:52 pm16 core machine. Using 16 cores for AE on 4GB each. 16 virtual cores reserved for other applications and 10gig of RAM I believe. Can’t check as rendering, but it’s very similar if not that.

May 15, 2014 at 3:17 pmIf you open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and watch it while you start the Ae render, what do you see? I’d be particularly interested in the Processes tab (how many instances of AfterFX.exe, how much RAM & CPU usage).
I’d also like to see the Resource Monitor’s Disk tab. (Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, Performance tab, Resource Monitor button).

May 27, 2014 at 10:30 pmSounds similar to my glitch: I’ve got a main comp in which I’m assembling sections of an animation. I WAS sending each of those sub-comps to render individually, but AE recently started taking forever to load/render them. BUT when I render them out from the main comp, it seems to work fine. Not ideal, but if it gets ya through the job…
