Right you can force relink to the originals via that command- assuming you have the original files someplace you can get to them. Otherwise you can also try File>Organize Event Files when selecting the Event which should copy the original clips into your Event folder. Just out of curiosity- why is this an issue? Whether it’s references or the actual media- it’s pretty much the same effect inside FCPX.

It depends at what point it crashed. What happens when you select the offline files and File>Relink Event Files?

Syncing up audio in post takes two seconds with FCPX- it’s point and click easy- audio syncs with picture automatically. Really at your budget if you want decent quality the DSLR/outboard record is the way to go. “Camcoders” in this price range are of the lowly Best Buy Handycam variety. But a DSLR such as a Canon T4i or a Panasonic GH3 will give you much better image quality paired with even a $100 Zoom H1 audio recorder. One decent lens and you’re all set. I’d start with the 20mm pancake. Versatile, fast and a great image.

Projects need to be in a folder called Final Cut Projects at the root of any drive you have connected or in the Movies folder of your System Hard Drive. Events need to be in Final Cut Events. So you’d just need to move them into those folded. Then they will be automatically loaded.

Can you be more specific? Generally speaking if you and a colleague ingest the identical media and don’t alter it you should be able to link projects that way. Ideally though you would share the same media and one person ingests and then sends an Event to make it perfect.

Make sure your Group By settings are set to none or at least not to by Content Created. That can cause this…

Yeah it’s actually by design- multiple selection ranges from an Event are edited according to descending selection order, not chronological. If you mark Ranges 1, 2, 3 on an Event clip, they will be edited into the Project 3, 2, 1, regardless of their chronological position.

Have a look a bit through the forum- folks are definitely doing longform with X. Can you give some more details- i.e. the formats you’re working with, quantity of footage and also your hardware specs.

I see it as another brush in the palette. FCP X can also be driven quite effectively with keyboard alone. But sometimes you just want to plow throw a mountain of clips looking for one elusive thing and for that Skimming cannot be beat.
