March 28, 2012 at 8:17 pm in reply to: Page turn custom menu not working properly

I just tried it on my system and all seems in proper working order.

    Media100 Suite2.1
    MacPro 12core with 12GB RAM
    OSX 10.7.2

I just added two different colour clips to the timeline and applied a page turn between them. I tried different settings and rendered ok in a 720×486 SD project with ProRes codec.

How is your project & system set up?

“I suppose even if Media 100 ceased as from today (heaven forbid), we could still carry on with the systems we operate now.”

I still have and use my MacroSystems DraCo from the mid-90s. It runs on a 50MHz Motorola 68060 processor with 128MB of RAM, SCSI-II drives, FireWire I/O, excellent SD image quality. The NLE has unlimited a/v tracks. It will play all straight cuts in realtime, any fx or layering need rendering and that’s where things get slow. It even has a multicam feature with support for up to 6 cameras.

Just because something is old, that doesn’t mean that it’s lost usefulness.

I don’t expect M100 to pass in the night any time soon. Thanks for BorisFX’s continued support!

March 28, 2012 at 7:48 pm in reply to: Can I cumulative paint with a keyed animation?

I’m note sure I understand how to use the paint option for this.

I don’t want to apply the brush strokes myself. I want a premade animation with alpha to do the full screen reveal. Non-transparent areas of the animation will paint the mask for the logo/text. As the animation progress, more of the mask is filled in, eventually revealing the full logo/text.

I’m looking for something that behaves like trails. As the animation progresses, all previous frames remain visible, eventually the transparent areas are painted away.

Is there a utility for Mac that would allow me to transplant the file header id from the corrupt file to the replacement?

A manual-relink would be helpful. Similar to working in RED.

BTW, I tried opening the original (corrupt) file from the media folder in QuickTime Pro, pasting replacement video into it, cutting the bad video out, then saving it. I thought it might keep the unique file header info but Media100 didn’t like that either.

I tried replacing the video via RED too by selecting the clip in Media100 then using EDIT in the Edit Suite window. This works to a degree but requires rendering and it doesn’t work correctly if there’s a transition on the FX track. Media100 reports source media not found, even though the rendered a/b tracks play fine.

I’ll have to use the replace option in the timeline. It will be more time consuming since I’ll need to trim & match up all the clips from that tape.

February 27, 2012 at 9:12 pm in reply to: RED 5 keyframe behaviour & mouse gestures

It is somewhat intermittent but it might be linked to duplicating layers or have greater frequency of occurrence. Usually related to a mouse gesture, purposeful or accidental. When it happens, I think it’s always affecting the layer above the one I’m adjusting. The strange state will go away if I exit RED and re-launch it.

I’ll see if I can come up with something reproducable.

February 21, 2012 at 3:55 pm in reply to: DVD super drive problem-does not eject

You’ve tried two drives and the result is the same?

Is your 2nd drive bay empty? Did you try the drive(s) in the 2nd bay using the alternative cabling/connectors?

If you do have a disc in the drive that won’t eject via keyboard, will it eject if you drag its icon to the trash?

When discs won’t eject, can you still read the data on them? Are they usable otherwise?

If you select FORCE QUIT from the apple menu, what applications does it list? Maybe you have something that is locking up the drive resource. When I have Toast open for DVD burning, it overrides normal access to the drive. Maybe a virus scanner is reading the drive?

I’m not sure if the power settings affect the superdrives or not. In System Preferences, look at your Energy Saver settings. There’s an option to “put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible”. When drives are idle, the computer puts them to sleep. If this is checked, try unchecking it.

I’ve had external USB DVD burners disappear on me from time to time. Unplugging them and reconnecting always brought them back from the great beyond.

Is yours internal or external? If internal, you could check for loose connections.

Are you able to test the drive with another computer to verify that it didn’t just die on you, coincidentally at the same time as your upgrade?

I had my Mac Pros bluetooth go awol once. A shutdown and cold boot restored it.

February 17, 2012 at 5:37 pm in reply to: iDVD 7 themes not visible under LION?

Here’s what my problem with iDVD7.1.2 7.0 themes looks like:

Both 4:3 and 16:9 versions of 7.0 themes look this way.

6.0 themes and older are fine.
