The position of the camera is just that, imagine if you had a real camera it would have a physical position in space. The point of interest is the exact place where the camera is pointed. You can move that around and even parent it to other layers so that the camera will keep pointing to that particular layer. you can move the camera laterally and it would still point to where ever the point of interst is.

You can turn off the point of interest by right clicking on the camera layer and under transform you should have an option called auto orient turn that off. That will solve your moving the point of interest and position at the same time. Then, like you state, the rotation will become your orient.

From what you say, the only thing I can think of is that you shouldn’t have your camera set to orient along path. It sounds like you don’t have a path created. Either set it to “off” or “orient to point of interest”.

That’s why you can’t see your layers the camera is trying to orient to a non existant path.

    good luck!

In your preferences you can set the duration of the stills you import. It is under the “edit” menu.

  • I would think it is the quictime layer that is giving you trouble. Is there anyways to re do that layer? Where did it come from? I suspect there is a bad bit of frame info there and if you could re-export the quicktime from where ever you got it and then re import it into AE it should work.

It won’t do to just delete the QT layer and then just import the same original quicktime. you have to re-render the original quicktime then import the new version into AE.

    Hope that helps!

you could make a sequence in that starts with one background and cuts/dissolves/transitions into the second one at the appropriate time. then export that as a quicktime, or whatever, then import that into PI as a bg and there you go.

One way to make it easier to do camera movements is to parent the camera to a null. Using the example movie you suggested place the null in the center of the walls of pics and place the camera away from them so that you see all of the pics. One the camera is parented to the null all you would have to do to get the camera to do a complete circle around the whole set of walls is to keyframe the rotation of the y axis on the null.

You can keep adding nulls and use them to control the zoom elements of a camera as well as other attributes.

Yes it is. It is called the anchor point and it is under transform on the layer.

Well I seem to have found out something. This was what I did originally,I had pre comped all of the 3d layers and then added them into a new comp. I then added a couple of more layers and then tried the wireframe option. No go.

I went to my pre-comped layers composition and tried the wireframe there and it worked. So maybe it doesn’t work with pre-comped layers?

“Umm, you can view your layers as wireframes by choosing wireframe layer quality, can’t you? ;o)”

You know that’s the first thing I tried but it didn’t seem to make a difference the images were still visible. Maybe mine wasn’t working? I had never used wireframe before so I just figured that it meant something else when it didn’t change anything.

I set the setting down to the lowest resolution that I could go as well but it still took forever for the ram preview.
