I am sorry , I did mean the After Effects Help files.

I checked them again and it said to keep the same aspect ratio, not the dimensions. I mis-remembered.

AE scales up the proxy to match the dimensions and length of the original. that is from the help files. Now if I create a bunch of animated masks and stuff will their position be correct when I go back to my original?

    Thanks for your help.

“You could, but then it would be just as big and unwieldy as the original. There would be no point.”

The avid help files say that I should keep the same dimensions. I don’t have it open now but it was due to the time it would take to rescale things or something like that. How will this affect the masks that I use. Will they be as accurate if I am using them on scaled down footage?

Thanks for all the help guys, Jasye, the pdf looks awesome great tips!

I have a question when I create a proxy of HD footage should I use the same dimensions as the original? The default setting when making a proxy reduced it by half, now I’m not sure if that is the way I should use it or not.

Yeah I read the help and I will use it more in the future. Sorry for Rezzing up but I couldn’t think of another way to say it,using a term from my editing hat. what is the difference from viewing it at 1/4 resolustion to using a proxy?

I will try using proxy thanks for the tip. I am having to comp 4 different plates into one scene and they were shot outside over a period of a day, so the lighting has changed considerably over the 4 plates. How would one handle the color correction while using a proxy? Will it match when rezzing up?

    Thanks

I think you have to type in “0” for the velocity and that will keep them on the same level.

I know that you can import camera data from Maya into After Effects, I am not sure about 3DS. If you can, I would try and set it up in Max and use locators(nulls) whatever max uses as place markers for the pictures and then bring the camera data into AE and replace the layers with the photos you need.

Sorry I didn’t realize how crappy that looks when it’s so small. The zoom in takes away from the subtle movements of the microdot soldiers. I originally used HD resolution so it looks a lot better that way. Hopefully the next test will be a better representation.

We will be shooting the tests soon, I will post some stuff when I start on it. I have been doing some tests on some stills and making the simulated army and it looks pretty good so far but matching grain , etc. will be the real test with the HD video. Thanks!
