Yes I think so. Better use the captue/sequence presets that come with FCP.

    Why 640×480? I live in a PAL area, but I don’t think that’s NTSC.

David you are right about codecs, but I was thinking/writing about uncompressed – that should work.

I guess you should export your sequence with Quicktime Conversion, select avi and choose the right compression settings (probably None).
As for the 4 GB limit, you can get around that by defining a Limit to the Export File Segment Size in the System Settings (Scratch Disk tab). FCP will chop up your export accordingly into smaller files that will open as one movie on the other side.

I am not sure though if this all works out nicely on the Premiere side of the universe – I regularly did this with .movs that had to be transported to a PC and that went flawless, but I have no experience with avi’s. (By the way if your Premiere studio has Quicktime installed they should be able to open a mov)

If it is 1920×1080 uncompressed it better be fast – and you will need a Sata connection at the least. The data rate will be at least 120MB/sec and higher if it is 10-bits instead of 8-bits; or progressive instead of interlaced.

    1. no (if your disks are fast enough)
    2. no (if your disks are fast enough)
    3. big yes if you want to do grading
    4. yes (well it’s part of the process)
    5. don’t know – Q1 suggests you are bringing in uncompressed shots. Aren’t you?

  • There is no difference – you just need to press option because if you don’t FCP will switch the active tracks to the angle you are clicking on.

    Yes you can.
After you capture your new clip, open the to-be-cropped clip in the Viewer, go to the Motion Tab and adjust the crop sliders.
Drag it to a new sequence on track 2 and put the new shot underneath on track 1.
Then drag this sequence from the Browser to the Viewer and go File>Edit to Tape to do an insert.
I assume you know the way from here; but if not, tell us so.

PS if the cameras stopped and started at about the same time you could also make a multiclip sequence.
