Distressing audio problem in FCP 6. Video/audio appears to capture just fine, but on playback, often, but not every time, I get audio stuttering. It doesn’t appear to matter whether I’m playing in browser, timeline or print to tape mode, and it happens in a different place every time. Video looks normal.

Any ideas what would cause this, or how I can fix it?

    Configuration:
MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.6 with 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB memory, Final Cut 6. Source video is recorded on a Sony DNW-90 (SX) NTSC 16:9, then played out to capture from a Sony DNW-A220 (SX recorder), composite signal converted through a Canopus ADVC-110 converter with RS-422 device control.

    Settings:
    Capture:
    ADVC-110 using NTSC
    29.97 frames per second
DV/DVCPRO – NTSC at Best quality
    24 bits per pixel
    640 by 480 (Anamorphic 16:9)
Using DV Audio for audio input
    Input: first 2 channels
    Format: 48,000 kHz 16-bit 2-chan
    Speaker: off

    Field Dominance: Lower (even)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC – CCIR 601 / DV
    Anamorphic 16:9 : on
    Video Processing: YUV allowed (8-bit)

    Why 640×480? I live in a PAL area, but I don’t think that’s NTSC.

Quite right, and I have changed it. Do you think that would affect the audio playback though?

Yes I think so. Better use the captue/sequence presets that come with FCP.

OK, that has fixed the problem during playback, but I still have it in print to tape mode. Any ideas?
