    Yes, a sequence can be inserted into a new timeline and Premiere will treat it like a clip. Within the same project you can create a sequence and then drag the old sequence from the Project Panel into the new timeline. Alternatively, open a new project and import the old project as though it were a video. The assets and timelines from the old file are now available within a separate bin in the Project Panel.

    The file is probably too big for your computer hardware to process in real time. Other than file size, there can be color management issues when using 8-bit RGB if the source or delivery codecs are YCC.

    Standard file formats are 10-bit, all intra-frame, 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 codecs such as the lightly compressed ProRes, DNxHD, AVC-Intra, or Cineform; or uncompressed YUV, V210, or DPX. If you are OK with 8-bit RGB, then PNG or JPEG2000 images sequences offer lossless quality at much lower bitrates than uncompressed (but are difficult to play in realtime).

    When considering the overall workflow, you should also consider nesting the sequence into a new sequence or importing it into a new project. The advantage is that you don’t need an intermediate file. The disadvantage is that all the effects will be rendered upon preview or export (but preview files and smart rendering can help with this).

    Thank you for the reply, Alex. I was applying the effect directly to the clip. I will try the adjustment layer approach as you suggested.

    It sounds like everything is functioning as it should. NTSC SD footage is saved with 720×480 rectangular pixels whether the video is 854×480 or 640×480. The aspect ratio flag tells the media player to stretch the image to widescreen or squish it to standard. Changing the flag to square pixels produces the result described in your post: you get a 3:2 image that either looks like a squished 16:9 or a stretched 4:3.

    Yes, Premiere will automatically drop every other frame.

    Because the video was recorded at a higher speed, each image is more crisp with less blur. Frame blending can be used to layer the dropped frames on top of the existing frames to smooth the motion.

  • It should not require a massive effort. The only issue is that Premiere doesn’t support 100fps. Upon importing the file, use the Modify > Interpret Footage function to set a lower frame rate (e.g 50fps). When inserting clips from the file onto a timeline, use the Speed/Duration… function to play the clips faster (e.g. 200%). This should restore the video to its original speed. Premiere will automatically drop 76/70 frames per second at regular intervals to meet the 24/30 fps sequence setting.

    Go to the settings menu in the upper right corner of the Multi-Camera panel and disable “Show Preview Monitor.”

  • You will need to create a sequence using one of the two frame rates. Here are the options:

    – Play at 29fps, repeat every 4th frame of the 24fps footage (ABCDDEFGHH); this will occur automatically
    – Play at 24fps, drop every 5th frame of the 29fps footage (ABCDFGHI); this will occur automatically
    – At either frame rate, enable frame blending to layer two adjacent frames
    – If desired, speed up the 24fps video or slow down the 29fps video
    – Use After Effects to interpolate new frames

    The best approach depends on the footage. Is there more of one frame rate than the other? Is there a lot of action or motion? Try testing a few short clips to see how it looks.
