I too have had duplicate names, Major problems because it.
Just be aware and don’t try and move media, relink.
    Good luck.
I wish the magic fairys would do a software update on the camera and fix this. Seems like a simple fix.

I had the sampe situtation. Major problems because of it. Same named master clips, they were not spanned and shot a month apart. It creates some serious havoc in my editting and organization.

Yeah, I thought that it would never have the same clip name. But that isn’t the truth. This is a problem when your consolidating or moving media.

I use external SATA drive enclosure. It is cheap. Using a raid is too expensive, if a drive of mine actually does die, I have an unmount esata backed up on my self

November 12, 2006 at 10:09 pm in reply to: P2 Store Confidence Builder?

I have an erradic issue where all of the partions do not mount on my G4 computer, I lost some footage this way.
So I must always mount and remount and remount to make sure that all of the partions are mounted on the computer.
    So this sucks,
I have latest updates on all. it is a random quirky thing, Sometimes the P2 store will also see footage after I reformat the P2 store. for example I reformat, and go and shoot new material. and the new material will be on the P2 Store, but ALSO some of the old footage prior to reformatting.

P2 store works with my mac book pro intel, So that issue that some people posted on is probabably a temporary quirk with the newest intels.

Overall, works pretty good, Except for the occasional partions on mounting.

I haven’t used the firestore, but extra weight, extra sound problems, redunant frames, whew! that sounds like a nightmare.

Actually the only mistake I made was not double check and manually counting the P2 volumes, Because not all of the partions mounted!!! So
DAMN IT!!. Make sure to plug in and mount and then eject and remount and hopefully they all come up. This is brutal!!!
Why the heck is this a problem? My other drives that are partioned, or an ipod, or external drive that is partioned, I’ve never seen this happen before?
    ridiculous.

Any uber geeks have a miracle program to find this material on a drive. I am trying Data Rescue II, but no luck.

October 3, 2006 at 10:03 pm in reply to: P2 or Firestore?

    I have 2 8gigs and the p2 Store.
I am very happy with the work flow,
    It works,
Firestore? I mean what do you gain from that? recording time? I mean is that really is that an issue?
    You can’t record 24pn!
Additional weight, additional battery, additional noise. and you gain the abilty to shoot longer.
For me it was a simple choice, as I shoot in 24pn.
If you were going to be shooting 1080 and in a studio sitcom environment. Then I would get the firestore.
I just would worry about the firewire snapping off using the camera anywhere else.
    Good luck.

September 15, 2006 at 5:30 am in reply to: What should I get P2 Card or Firestore?

    I have 2 8gig cards and the p2 store, I can shoot 320 minutes at 720 24pn,
I would buy it again in heartbeat.
I am sure the firestore will break off the firewire connnection in due time.
Who wants to worry about the firewire cable getting snapped off.
I very happy with my purchase.

June 2, 2006 at 5:04 pm in reply to: Upgrade from G4 to G5 now or wait for Intel chip

Wait, don’t buy it a G5 now, the Macbook Pro is already faster than the dual G5 2.0.
And the reality is that if your just doing editing it won’t matter that much, unless your doing many many effects and multilayering.
Everyone always talks about how much faster a computer is, the reality is that if your just editting it isn’t like your going to save that much time.
I have a G4 1.25 and I am waiting for the Next generation G5 or what ever they decied to call it, the Intel Desktops will be leaps ahead of the current G5s
