I just downloaded the footage last night from the P2 store. and erased the store this morning.
Here is the problem. Not all of the P2 partitions mounted yesterday so, unbeknownest to me at the time. I imported all the clips. spot check abunch and all were transfered. Now today I am trying to edit and the most important footage didn’t get imported. (Because all of the partions didn’t mount, how am I suppose to know if there are five or six partions to look for? I use to sometimes mount the P2 store and count the partions and then dismoutn and remount and compare, but this is totally crude!!!

I have the P2 store erased. Is it possilbe to use some program to unerase and see the files and get them. As I have not recored anything new over the P2 store! those files should still be on there?
Any one have this problem. This is horrible!

Ooof..I don’t know an answer to that. I only want to take this opportunity to say that you skipped a very vital step. Copying the files from the P2 store onto another hard drive. Not importing…but copying. Having the actual files stored on a hard drive somewhere, for those original files are in essence your Master Tapes. You wouldn’t capture footage then throw away your tapes would you? Keeping only the captured files?

No. You need to transfer the raw CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.txt file to a master archive drive. Then this wouldn’t happen again.

But I feel for you…and hope there is a solution. If you don’t copy any more footage onto that drive, there will be hope.

Actually the only mistake I made was not double check and manually counting the P2 volumes, Because not all of the partions mounted!!! So
DAMN IT!!. Make sure to plug in and mount and then eject and remount and hopefully they all come up. This is brutal!!!
Why the heck is this a problem? My other drives that are partioned, or an ipod, or external drive that is partioned, I’ve never seen this happen before?
    ridiculous.

Any uber geeks have a miracle program to find this material on a drive. I am trying Data Rescue II, but no luck.

Kinda doubt it’s possible- take it to a data recovery place. But that’s going to cost anywhere from $300-2,000. You’ll need to determine if the footage is replaceable for less. And in the future- I highly highly recommend as Shane does- first copying everything on the P2 Store to another hard drive, before going into FCP. It’s the only way to be sure you get everything on the drive. If you just go right into FCP you’re throwing away all of your MXFs and getting yourself into the risk of exactly the situation you now face.

Also careful shooting notes can also make a big deal. It can be as simple as attaching a sheet of paper to the P2 store that you tick off each P2 Card you transfer onto it as you shoot so you can be absolutely certain all have been transferred before you erase.

I posted this problem earlier. I used disk utility to check the contents and mount the partition that failed to appear. It’s a pig of a problem and it’s happening quite regularly…….. I’m seriously looking at XDCAM HD.
