The authoring components are unlocked if you purchase Quicktime pro. $29 last I checked.

Hi,
don’t know if any of this will help but…
I have a file from FCP which did not have the .mov extention on it so Vegas would not recognize it. I can add either .mov or .avi and either way it works in Vegas. So maybe you can try a different extention and see if that works.
Or,if the file will play in Quicktime player. If you have/get Quicktime pro($29USD), you could export from there as .avi trying various settings/compression to see if that works.
Good luck! -
Hi,
I tried this myself to see what happens. My file(uncompressed avi) opened in Vegas. It was not a huge file…I only recorded a few seconds. I’m using Vegas 5 on an old dell. Also, I was able to open the file in quicktime pro and export it compressed. Don’t know if any of this helps. maybe burn the file to a dvdr and see if anyone else can convert it for you on another machine or with another nle

…and no, I’m not going to ‘cross-fade’ into being politically correct here. Cross-fades suck – avoid them and look more professional in your edits.
The guy asked a technical question which was promptly answered. He doesn’t require any further advice. He can use his own free will to edit any way he likes.
Nobody is asking you to use a transistion if you don’t want to.
The more time you spend telling people how skilled and professional you are, the less they believe it.

A crossfade most closely resembles what your brain does when switching attention from one object to another.(see persistence of vision — you can’t even “see” a straight cut!) While switching from one scene to another, time lapses, and so the denotation of time lapse is appropriate. Straight cuts are lazy editing and cause jarring, abrupt transistions. Straight cuts serve no purpose and are the most unimmaginative way to edit. ;)”
I don’t agree with that at all. There must a lot of lazy Hollywood editors – because I rarely see anything but start cuts in good movies.
The art is in where to cut. It’s the first thing I learned in school.
Pro editors rarely crossfade clips. For example, watch Million Dollar Baby – not a crossfade in it! A couple fade-to-black to denote time lapse, but no crossfades.
Was Clint being lazy?
That entire paragraph was written as a sarcastic joke to point out the extreme, blanket statement you made. Of course it’s not true! And neither is your statement.

But seriously, friend. How can you throw out blanket statements like that without a clue to what someone is editing? When it comes to artistic guidelines, there always comes a time when standard rules and conventions need to be bent broken and ignored. Have you written those Star Wars people about those iris wipes yet? Sheesh! That stuff went out with zoot suits.

January 1, 2007 at 2:19 am in reply to: unable to choose custom options for ac3 renderingwith my vegas 5 I lose ac3 functions if I uninstall dvd architect, so although I prefer another dvd authoring program I keep dvd architect on the system just for the ac3 funtions.

ok
the uninstall/reinstall(everything sony)and deleting all sony/soundforge registry(suggested in a search on the subject) worked
but can anyone tell me why that happened?
now I have to reprogram my toolbars, hotkeys, etc
I wouldn’t care to do this too often. Any ideas on prevention appreciated.
Thanks
Happy New Year!
