  • I don’t have Twixtor, but I have successfully accomplished this with great results with a free tool called SVP (Smooth Video Project). The tool imitates the “motion flow” interpolation effect on a pc. While it was designed for playback, it does have options to output the results to a file. I can’t remember the exact process, but I think it will output an Avisynth script, then you can use that in whatever encoder can use a script. You mentioned Virtualdub which can import an avs file. You may be able to do all your processing in one step in Virtualdub.

The is some overlap with vegas functionality, but I really like the 6 vector color correcter and being able to adjust hsl for each of the six colors. Also under the blur options you can do a chroma blur of any size, while vegas only lets you do 4 pixels. This can help smooth out some chroma noise by bumping up a little higher. Also you can do some basic levels adjustment and white balance all from one filter.

Can’t forget about AAV Colorlab. Kinda old but it’s 64 bit and I use it frequently. I find that if I adjust the reds to about -9 it gives skin tones a very nice color.

I use Vegas 11 on an MSI laptop GT780DXR-095. I bought it used for 750 bucks on ebay. It has Quad I7 Sandy Bridge, 12GB Ram, dual hard drive bays and I replaced one with an SSD for another hundred bucks, and use the other for video and data files. It came with a GTX 570M graphics card and full 1080p display. The GTX 500 series are the best Nvidia cards for Vegas due to architectural changes in the later series that messed up render acceleration. If I’m plugged in to power, I get great performance. I get Good/full 1080 24p at full speed even after adding some color correction filters. If I’m on battery it’s not quite as snappy but still very useable. I love this thing. FYI its a BIG laptop.

I don’t think the 5100 or any Nikon or Canon dslr shoots 1080i. Use the template for HD 1080 60i and change the field order to none/progressive. For some reason there is no template for 1080 30p which is a very common format and is most likely what you are shooting. Save the preset for added convenience.

Ditto what the others said but I would add that you make sure you are rendering on “Best” if you are downrezzing from HD.

You will not see a performance increase with a Quadro 4000. Even on the vegas gpu page it puts a gtx 570 against a Quadro 5000 and the much cheaper gtx 570 wins in every case. Some people swear by the Quadros and what your paying for is pro level support. If this is important to you, go for it. You will not get better performance from a Quadro though. I would get a gtx 580.

    SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me anyways and I hope this helps.

Turn on compatibility mode and put it to windows 7.

I was getting constant crashes when adding and removing effects. Even with GPU disabled. I tried different combinations of video drivers and Vegas builds with very little luck. I got used to saving my project after doing every little thing. I read all these forums nothing worked. I thought about buying a new graphics card or switching NLEs but I’m glad I didn’t now.

As a last resort (should have been first resort!) I was gonna contact Sony. While looking at their support website there was a new post in their knowledge base that said “Stability with third party effects.”

    Problem solved Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m getting the constant crashing too. I found that I can get better stability by disabling gpu playback but then my playback framerates are terrible. I’m wondering if it would be beneficial to have a thread either here or elsewhere where people can list their system specs and whether or not they get constant crashing. I love nvidia but it seems like all the people with Vegas 11 issues are using nvidias not radeons. I may be wrong but that’s why I think a list of system specs would help us figure out the culprit and help those building new systems. I would love to have a crash free Vegas. If it means building a seperate PC with a different video card or CPU so be it.

I use Vegas Pro so I’m not positive but I also believe in this case MainConcept= Mpeg2, Sony AVC= AVC which would explain the bitrate difference.
