    I am judging the playback on a TV. It’s worse on a computer monitor. I think that I am going to up the bit rate on encoding to see what difference that makes. thanks for the responses.

    if it seems too good to be true it is. I checked the seller ratings for the sites selling cameras cheap and reviews were terrible.

    A simple compression techniques goes like this, and it does wonders to make audio richer…

    1. Apply the Compression/Limiter to the clip,
    2. open the filter in the viewer
    3. Click the preserve volume checkbox
    4. Set Threshhold to 0
    5. Set ratio to 2
    6. loop clip playback
    7. slowly lower the threshold until the noise gets louder, but without increase the noise floor/ambient noise.

    Are you shooting HDV? Are your capture settings HDV? Do you have device control? Wondering about a couple specifics in regards to your problem.
