  • Capturing HDV on Final Cut Pro 5

I have a Final Cut Pro 5. I have a XH-A1 Canon HDV camera. The first time I attempted to capture HDV 1080i60 onto my FCP a little box came up saying:

“Unable to initialize capture device and device control. Device is not connected or the capture preset and device control preset are not setup correctly. You may still log offline clips. This might also happen if you have DV footage in an HDV device.”

I was unable to find an adequate solution and in the end using a Apple firewire solved the problem. Strange because the camera and computer had no trouble capturing Standard Def at anytime. I did not understand how the firewire fixed the problem, but seeing as how it was working, I did not look into it any furthur.

Now, many months has passed and for some reason the same thing is happening again. The same message comes up everytime I try to capture HDV video with the same camera, computer and the Apple firewire. I have checked the settings on the computer and it is set to HDV 1080i60 as it was before when it worked.

I am all out of ideas, and I cannot find anything that will explain this odd happening.

    Please help!!!
