Hi Greg,
You should update to the latest version of Transfer, v 2.12. The problem you are having is (I’m taking a guess, let me know if I’m off the mark) that you are running Snow Leopard and the version of Transfer you have is not compatible. Specifically, the thumbnail generation is known to not function properly with versions below 2.12 and Snow Leopard.

It’s a 60 day trial. The registration dialog will pop up occasionally but can be dismissed. The purchase details are still forthcoming from the product group so you can’t register it yet. That’s one of the reasons for the long trial period.

The main difference between the two is lifespan. The SxS-1s will go for approx 10,000 read/write cycles; the SxS-Pros will go up to 100,000 read/write cycles.
Also, The EX-1 needs firmware 1.20 to support SxS-1. The EX-3 needs v 1.10. PMW-350, PMW-320, PMW-500 + PMW-EX1R are newer models and don’t need any upgrades for SxS-1 support.

The full version costs what it does because there are other features besides the QuickTime component. It enables support for Omneon-generated MXF files, frame chase editing while ingesting from Omneon servers and a smart render API. The $99 version only includes the QuickTime plugin.

XDCAM Transfer 2.12 will recognize ‘orphaned’ .mp4 files, so you can gather all these in one folder and add that folder as a source in Transfer.
Failing that you can also use Clip Browser to ‘heal’ or re-register the files and build a new BPAV. If the method outlined in the previous post does not work you can manually import the files to a new folder. This will rebuild all the metadata.

This is all more or less correct.
The cost of having Sony do the upgrade would be 135.00. This is the minimum 1 hour bench fee charged by the service department.
We strongly advise end users to do the updates but if they’re prefer not to risk it they can call the service group and have them do it.

I don’t believe the firmware can be downgraded on any of the models, at least not using the VersionUp application..
No process is foolproof, especially when a computer OS is involved. If users don’t feel comfortable doing the upgrade the Sony service team will be happy to do it for them.

It’s a ‘Quick’ format and only deletes the file allocation table so it’s questionable that it would have an adverse effect on the life of the card.
