There’s a quirk in the software that requires two Explorer windows and a Preview window to be displayed before you can restore the default layout. If you don’t have these windows displayed you can display them from the Window menu. After this the ‘Restore Default’ option should become active.

Those are not the US downloads.
For the record, anyone who’s used the new XDCAM downloads site will see that serious, tangible improvements have been made wrt having a user-friendly, easy-to-navigate and up-to-date download page. Since we’ve moved away from hosting everything on the Software Plus site, there is zero bureaucracy; it’s quite literally the product manager, one web services person and myself doing all of it and taking on the work precisely because of all the bottlenecks we had to deal with in the past.
The reason– and I’ve addressed this before– the US site is sometimes a bit late when posting XDCAM-related updates is that we test the software and often redo the documentation. Most of the smaller international Sony Sales companies around the world just take what they get from Japan and upload it. Believe me, it’s in everybody’s best interest that we do this.
I will have LT2 uploaded to our site shortly.

Standard BNC should be ok for TC and gen lock. Both are analog signals.

Make sure you have the correct AMA plugin for your version of Media Composer. Different versions = different AMAs. You can download them at https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads . If Browser sees the card correctly it’s unlikely that the card or files are the problem.

You need to use XDCAM Browser 2.0 or higher with clips shot on an F3 running 1.20 or later firmware. EX Clip Browser had been discontinued and F3 v 1.2 and up require the newer Browser software due to some slight changes in the clip and card metadata..

SD cards and Memory Sticks can only be formatted with a /private directory. This can’t be changed, unfortunately. I believe it’s a media requirement that goes beyond what the camcorder is doing…

One more clarification which I don’t think I made clear earlier– Browser is only required for MXF on optical disc. For MXF on SxS (from PMW-500, PDW-HR1/MK2, XDCAM Station) you can use Import From Camera to reward the XDCAM .mxfs to .movs.

Log and Transfer does not transcode EX to any other codec. It will only rewrap. The options referred to are not for EX. Your best bet is to stay in the EX codec unless you have a really enormous amount of material and storage concerns. If you have to convert your best bet is to import at full res and then batch convert/media manage to Pro Res proxy or another offline format.
Apple Intermediate will actually create larger files and is not really an option. Raw DV isn’t going to do much for you either.

One minor correction– sub-clipping on import is supported with IFC and EX.
It’s unlikely that optical XDCAM will be supported but it’s still being investigated. There are pretty solid technical reasons on both sides for the difficulty involved in the development. At any rate the Browser workflow is in many ways preferable to IFC, especially if any logging or clip/disc management is required.

I’m reluctant to wade into this one as while the Nano uses our Torino chip for XDHD encoding there is a lot of misinformation flying around viz this topic.
What I can add is that while there are some other cool enhancements and updates on the road map we will not be adding 50 Mbps HD422 to current EX devices (though you’ll continue to see it on hybrid devices like the PMW500, PDW-HR1/MK1 and XD Station decks). Easiest path to 50 Mb is to use XD Browser with the Main Concept plugin and up-convert to HD422. There are other ways to do this (round trip through Avid, FCP, Premiere etc) but the nice thing about Browser is that it’s very easy to log and batch convert entire card archives in one pass..
