I’m glad you have avoided any issues but it’s not simply a matter of ‘taking care with the cards’. SDHC cards fail in the EXs with much higher frequency than SxS cards. The math doesn’t lie. Also they tend to be made with cheaper memory and lack any kind of buffer management. Some users go years with no issues, others call me in a panic at 10 pm on a weekend with ‘Media Cannot be Restored’ errors or missing clips. If the cards were totally unsafe or unreliable we wouldn’t let you use them so I’m not trying to scare anyone off of them. But you are taking a risk.

very little to speak if as far as ‘mechanical differences’ but we use quality components and we control the manufacturing and specification.

The failure rate on even the best SD cards is several times that of the cheapest SxS card. Also if you have a problem there is much less we can do for you with non-SxS media. If you have to use SD cards please use the Sony SD02 adaptor.

Clip Browser isn’t supported under Mavericks. The application was discontinued and replaced some time ago with Content Browser. With Content Browser the real time metadata display is no longer a free feature; it’s part of the advanced feature pack and has to be purchsed separately. https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/contentbrowser
If you must stick with Clip Browser and were able to get it running under Mavericks in the past, try deleting the app and the preferences file and then reinstalling.

the EX1 firmware is available only by calling or emailing support. There is a minimum version required to install updates using the public ‘version up’ application and we need to make sure you are at that version or higher before we make the firmware available. There are no issues with the site that I’m aware of. If you go to the EX1 download page you should see a technical bulletin instructing you to call US support. I and others monitor the Community forum and I am always checking in here, so feel free to let me know about any issues you may run into. You can also call our US support office at 800 883 6817.

Sorry you had such a difficult time.
You really only need one driver. If you are using UDF mode you should have the UDF driver. Nothing else is required for transferring files from the camera. There are some plugins for the editors but these pretty well documented and available on our site or Avid’s.

April 30, 2014 at 3:33 pm in reply to: How to fix problems importing MP4 (SONY EX3) and MXF (C300) into Premiere! Finally!!!!!Unless you are using a very old version of Premiere it should take EX .mp4s and XDCAM .mxfs natively. I cannot speak for Canon HD422 files but Sony XDCAM and EX files do not require plugins in CS5, CS6 or CC unless they are QuickTime wrapped and being read on a Windows system.
Go with whatever works but again, you should not need anything besides Premiere unless it is very old or the files have been rewrapped for FCP.

actually it’s any changes to the card, including ones you’re not aware you are making. all you have to do is open a folder in Finder and you’ll get a Restore prompt as Mac OS puts hidden files in every folder it touches.

April 28, 2014 at 2:14 pm in reply to: Sony SxS Device and UDF drivers with Mavericks (Mac OS 10.9) supportyou have everything required. you actually don’t need the FAM driver (that’s for firewire connections to XDCAM optical devices). does this happen on all ports, with different cables, using the camera as a reader etc?

UDF mode is nothing new and basically means that the card appears to Premier with the same data structure as an XDCAM Optical Disc. You do not need plugins in any recent version of Premiere. Make sure you have the SxS UDF Driver installed. Access the files in the Media Browser by navigating to the card or card archive, just as you would with any supported file based format. If you need to export back to XDCAM, select the ‘MXF Op1A’ option and an XDCAM 422/50 Mb codec. Let me know if you run into specific issues or questions.
