How to fix problems importing MP4 (SONY EX3) and MXF (C300) into Premiere! Finally!!!!!

YES! THERE IS A SOLUTION! (at least worked for me…)

After weeks of research about how to properly import MP4 files (from a SONY EX3) and MXF files (from a C300) in PREMIERE I finally found a solution that DID WORK.

You need to install the Calibrated{Q} MXF or MP4 Importer (depending on what you need) and the Calibrated{Q} XD Decode. BOTH.

You can download a demo version (for both, MAC and PC) and try them. They are not free but it totally worth it.

I was also having problems (PC) with gamma shift on both MP4 and MXF files during Premiere playback. That was also fixed 🙂

Unless you are using a very old version of Premiere it should take EX .mp4s and XDCAM .mxfs natively. I cannot speak for Canon HD422 files but Sony XDCAM and EX files do not require plugins in CS5, CS6 or CC unless they are QuickTime wrapped and being read on a Windows system.

Go with whatever works but again, you should not need anything besides Premiere unless it is very old or the files have been rewrapped for FCP.

Ha! Thanks for your comment Ian! Actually, while I was doing research about this I read a lot of your comments and it was very helpful at the moment! so thanks!

I know that “in theory” it should take EX .mp4 and .mxfs, but in my case (and many others I found around forums) for some reason it doesn’t. I just found a solution but I’m not exactly sure whats the problem.

I’ve been bringing in XDCAM EX and Canon files natively with Premiere Pro since CS5.5.
